Rev. Malkmus Celebrates 79th Birthday
February 12th is a very special day in my life. First, it is special because it was on this date in 1934, at 8:20 a.m., that I physically entered this world — and second, it was on this same date in 1992, that Hallelujah Acres had its beginning.
I really feel blessed to be celebrating my 79th birthday. Neither my mom nor dad lived past age 65, and I am only three years from outliving the oldest recorded age of any family member on either my mom’s or dad’s side.
Mother died following a bout with colon cancer, and dad died after suffering numerous strokes and heart attacks. So, if genes have anything to do with what physical problems develop in a person’s lifetime, surely I was a prime candidate for both mom’s cancer and dad’s stroke problems.
And sure enough, in 1976, at age 42, I was told I had colon cancer, and in 2001, at age 67, I suffered a major hemorrhagic stroke. In 1976, when I was told I had cancer, rather than going the medical route mom had gone before me for her colon cancer (with horrible consequences), I opted for “The Genesis 1:29 Diet.” Within one year of making the diet change, my cancer was gone and has remained gone for 37 years.
In 2001, after returning from a speaking tour in South Africa — where I had delivered seven seminars in six day to an average crowd of 600 and was in airplanes for 53 hours — I lost my ability to speak coherently while lecturing at Hallelujah Acres.
I was rushed to the Shelby hospital where I was diagnosed as having experienced a hemorrhagic stroke (a blood vessel had ruptured in my brain). Doctors blamed the stroke on the extended stress during my South African speaking tour and the extensive hours spent in airplanes, hopping all over South Africa.
For my stroke, doctors immediately wanted to introduce intravenous drugs into my body and airlift me to Charlotte for surgery to cauterize the bleed. Rhonda was concerned that the drugs would kill me (I had not taken a drug for anything in 25 years). She was also very concerned about a potential brain operation.
Rhonda refused to give the doctors permission to treat me and the doctor told her that, without treatment, I would die. I was ordered out of the hospital. I was taken home by ambulance, carried by stretcher to my bed, and Rhonda had to sign a form to verify that I was still alive when I arrived home.
At home, Rhonda immediately started me on the Hallelujah Recovery Diet, which calls for a fresh, raw vegetable juice or a barley powder drink every waking hour. By the next morning, my thinking abilities had begun to return.
Within one week of the stroke, Rhonda took me to a neurologist who read my hospital records, talked to me, and exclaimed, “You’re a miracle!” He went on to say that 50% of all who experience a hemorrhagic stroke die and the remaining 50% are usually left with physical and/or mental limitations, yet neither of these scenarios applied to me. To this day, I have no known limitations as a result of that stroke.
I am convinced that if I had not been on The Hallelujah Diet when I experienced that stroke 12 years ago, and if Rhonda had not refused medical treatments, and if she had not given me copious amounts of raw vegetable juices, I would not be celebrating my 79th birthday.
In fact, I feel absolutely terrific! I have incredible energy, endurance, and stamina — even more than I had before the cancer 37 years ago. My resting pulse is in the 50s and I still find life on planet earth a wonderful, exciting, and blessed experience! I can still do daily vigorous aerobic workouts, stretching, and weight resistance exercises, go on 2 – 4 mile power walks, perform hard physical work… you name it!
I go to bed around 9:00 P.M. each evening, fall asleep almost immediately, sleep soundly, and most mornings I am up at around 6:00 A.M. when I work on my weekly Health Tips, which I have been writing most every morning for the past 15 years.
And as for my energy level, come see for yourself at one of my seminars. I do 2-1/2-hour seminar with no notes without sitting down once! (They don’t call me the Hallelujah Energizer Bunny for nothing!)
Though I am (trying) to slow down, I still carry on a vigorous speaking schedule. During the first three months of 2013, I have either already or have scheduled six “God’s Way to Ultimate Health” seminars and two television appearances along with remote radio interviews, in addition to writing my weekly Health Tips. And I can still type over 50 words a minute with almost zero error.
Rhonda and I are both active in our local church. We both love gardening; each year we grow our salad vegetables along with some organic fruits — and I still mow my own lawn and take care of the landscaping.
Today, at age 79, I have no sign of senility, Parkinson’s, arthritis, mental fog, liver spots on my hands, or even a spare tire! I haven’t an ache or a pain in my body, and still have a full head of hair that continues to regain color after turning snow white following my stroke in 2001.
My eyesight is such that I do not need glasses for distance or reading. In fact, five years ago, after having a “corrective lenses” restriction on my driver’s license for more than 50 years, I passed my North Carolina driver’s license eye test without glasses. The restriction was removed.
As you may know, Rhonda and I moved to Florida this past fall. Because of the move, we had to obtain new Florida driver’s licenses. This required that we both pass new eye tests. I passed mine not only without glasses, but could read the smaller line below the line I needed to read to pass the test. That’s a BIG hallelujah!
At age 79, my senses of hearing and smell are exceptionally keen and I weigh the same as I did in high school (145 lbs.) with a waist size of 32 inches. I have a lean, muscular body — rock hard abs, calves, biceps/triceps, and I am still building muscle without any animal source protein in 37 years! (Seminar audiences always cheer when I beat on my abs and show off my calf and bicep muscles!) Although I have been on a 100% plant-based, mostly raw diet for 37 years, there is no indication of any nutritional deficiency.
I do not believe I have ever felt stronger in body or mind then I feel today. Despite approaching my 79th birthday, I do not have an ache or pain. To God be all the glory! He created this physical body I possess, and He designed it to be exercised daily and nourished with exclusively garden foods so that I can continue to experience health into my later years.
I believe that the only reason I have reached age 79 in such a physical and mental state is because I listened and applied what my Creator communicated to me in His Word, the Bible, in Genesis 1:29, 37 years ago. And let’s not forget what the Bible says in Galatians 6:7: “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
Since the stroke in 2001, I have decreased the number of seminars I deliver each year, reduced the hours on the road and time in motels, and have cut out all air travel. But I still deliver a first-Saturday-of-the-month seminar in some city in the southeast each month (along with additional seminars in between), I still make television appearances, and I still write the weekly Hallelujah Health Tip.
Many tell me that I have more fire in the delivery of my seminars than I had before the stroke! Today, my passion and concern for others, especially God’s people who are sick and dying needlessly, has not slackened!
While I have no plans for complete retirement, I continue to cut back on my speaking engagements and time away from home and I am planning even more slowdown after I reach my 80th birthday which is only a year away.
Thank you for your continued love, prayers, and support, and thank you for sending in those testimonies — nothing encourages and motivates me more than reading how The Hallelujah Diet has restored the health of God’s children and, in some cases, even saved their lives.
If you haven’t already sent me your healing testimony as a result of adopting The Hallelujah Diet, please send it, as that would be the greatest birthday present you could give me. And thank you especially for those who have stood with us and encouraged us through the years. We love you and thank God for each of you!
