2012 – Time To Try Something New?
Dec 27th
On January 1, 2012 we will all begin a “NEW” Year. In the last book of the Bible, we find a passage about a coming day when Jesus will proclaim: “Behold, I make all things ‘NEW’”. (Revelation 21:8)
As we anticipate the beginning of a new year, I want to challenge you to consider some “new” things that could be helpful to both your physical and spiritual well-being.
The Bible often cautions us with regard to the choices we make. For instance the apostle John admonishes us:
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but TRY the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
(1 John 4:1)
I Was Raised On The Standard American Diet (SAD)
I was raised in a home, being provided items to eat by my mother that were not in my health’s best interest. Now I can’t blame my mother for this, because she was doing the best she knew how based on her knowledge.
Mother was a registered nurse and what she gave me to eat was based in large part on what she was taught about nutrition in Nurses Training, and of course what she was provided to eat by her mother as she was growing up.
What most of us eat today is based on what we were programmed to eat by our parents and what society around us eats.
I was raised on the Standard American Diet (SAD), a diet of meat and dairy at most every meal, with lots of sugary desserts, while almost everything I ate was cooked.
Based upon what I have learned in recent years, this diet was one that was destined to eventually create physical breakdown and problems in future years.
I Continued To Eat The Standard American Diet
Shortly after graduating from high school in 1952, Uncle Sam sent me greetings that my services were required in the U.S. Army for service in the Korean War. Having joined the Naval Reserve in high school, rather than going into the Army, I applied for active duty in the U. S. Navy, where after boot camp I served on a ship for several years.
On that ship, the U.S.S. LST 1041, once again without any input from me or knowledge of what was healthy to eat, I was provided and ate the same SAD diet I had been raised on at home. [LST’s are Landing Ship Tanks, and would beach themselves, open their bow doors, and from the tank deck tanks and troops would come forth to engage the enemy.]
After an honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy in July 1955 I married and guess what I ate? You guessed it, the same SAD diet I had been raised on and eaten during my upbringing at home and during my years in the Navy.
Consequences Of Consuming The Standard American Diet
As a result of consuming this almost 100% cooked food diet (high in animal fat and animal protein with lots of candy, sugar desserts and soft drinks), physical problems that had begun to manifest as a child continued to manifest with increasing frequency and intensity as I grew older.
Pimple outbreaks became more intense and frequent; tooth decay caused me to spend ever increasing hours in dentist chairs; eyesight deterioration developed to the extent I required glasses; hypoglycemia manifested; elevated blood pressure surfaced, and the final blow – in late 1975 was told I had colon cancer.
Not wanting to go the traditional medical route my mother had gone for her colon cancer before me, I went looking for an alternative. Why? Because mother’s experience of going the medical route and accepting their treatments was disastrous.
At mother’s death, I was convinced it wasn’t the cancer that ultimately caused her death. It was the chemotherapy, radiation and surgery that destroyed her immune system, which in turn led to her death.
I believe that most of the deaths attributed to cancer today are caused by the immune destroying treatments used in the treatment of cancer — not by the cancer itself.
On the death certificates of these cancer patients, cause of death should not be listed as “cancer”, but rather “treatments.”
Then I Tried Something “New”
After watching the rapid decline in mother’s health after she started down the medical route for her cancer, I went seeking an alternative.
In my search, I asked the advice of an evangelist in Texas by the name of Lester Roloff. He discouraged me from going the medical route and encouraged me to do something as simple as change what I ate.
He said that if I wanted to get well I needed to stop eating the SAD diet of cooked meat and dairy, and the refined sugar that had destroyed my immune system (and caused my cancer). In its place, he said I needed to start eating the raw garden foods God told Adam to eat in Genesis 1:29, and to drink lots of freshly extracted vegetable juices.
Because I was willing to try something “NEW” (at least it was new to me) my rectal bleeding stopped within days and the baseball-sized tumor in my colon shrunk then disappeared.
Within a year I was well and cancer-free!
Friends, because I was willing to try something “NEW” 36 years ago, I am still alive and well and soon to be 78 years of age. I have already outlived my mother by 12 years who ate the SAD diet and accepted medical modalities for her cancer.
Are You Willing To Try Something “New?”
In both the spiritual and physical realms, there are false prophets trying to lead us in a direction contrary to the way God would have us go, a way contrary to our best interests.
And when a person listens to these false prophets it can lead them ever further away from both spiritual and physical health.
How can we know whether a spirit is of God? We can “try the spirit”:
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this WORD [the Bible], it is because there is no light in them.”
(Isaiah 8:20)“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy WORD is truth.”
(John 17:17)Jesus said: “And ye shall know the TRUTH, and the TRUTH shall make you free.”
(John 8:32)
Many Voices
Friends, there are many voices beckoning us to try various things in both the spiritual and physical realms that can be very destructive to both our physical and spiritual well-being.
Many a person has walked into trouble by trying something new, something they should never have tried in the first place. For instance, that first cigarette or that first drink of alcohol…that first lie…taking something that didn’t belong to them…being unfaithful to a spouse…and we could go on.
And as we look back over our lives, most of us can see how that if we had tested the spirits and never tried that something new, that something that was not in our best interest, that took us in a direction we shouldn’t have gone, or consuming something that wasn’t good for us, how much better our life could have been.
As we go back to the book of Genesis we learn that God gave Adam and Eve a diet in Genesis 1:29. When did God give them that diet? Immediately after He had created them!
This diet God gave them consisted of 100% raw, garden sourced plant foods, the very foods science confirms our physical body was designed to be nourished with.
However, in Genesis 3:1-6 that old serpent the devil comes along and entices Eve to try something “new” (the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil) and she yielded, ate of the forbidden fruit, then gave some to Adam, and he partook. And we all know the result – sin entered the world.
“Wherefore, as by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned…For as by one man’s [Adam’s] disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one [Jesus] shall many be made righteous…That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.”
(Romans 5:12, 19, 21)
Our Enemy Is Still Trying To Get Us To Try Something New
Today, our enemy, that old serpent the devil, is still trying to get us to try something new — something that is detrimental to our health! — like cigarettes, beer, wine, liquor, soda pop, candy, sugar desserts, cooked animal flesh and dairy, and we could go on.
And what has been the result? Sickness abounds!
Most of the prayer requests in our churches are for sickness, while the cost of treating all this sickness is bankrupting not only our own pocketbooks, but the pocketbook of our nation.
The more we spend treating the symptoms of these physical problems the worse the health of our people.
In contrast, are you my dear friend willing to try something new that is good for you?
If you are not on The Hallelujah Diet, may I encourage you to do so. It’s a diet and lifestyle similar to the one God gave Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden some 6,000 years ago, and the diet I turned to 36 years ago that restored my health.
Your health, length of life, and years of service to Jesus depends on having a body fit for the Master’s use!
And if you have only religion and not Jesus, may you today accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour!
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.”
(See Romans 10:9-13)
With Jesus in our hearts and a body fit for the Master’s use, what an exciting position to be in as we enter the New Year 2012.
Rhonda and I wish you and yours a very blessed, healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year 2012!
Next week, the good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high, we will bring you another exciting and informative Hallelujah Health Tip.
The True Meaning of Christmas
Dec 20th
This being the last issue of the Hallelujah Acres Health Tip before Christmas 2011, we are going to deviate from our regular Health Message to bring you a Christmas message from the founder of Hallelujah Acres, Rev. George Malkmus:
Before founding Hallelujah Acres in 1992, I had been a pastor for nearly 20 years. As a pastor, I always brought a Christmas message regarding “The True Meaning of Christmas” to the congregations in the various churches I pastored.
Shortly after Hallelujah Acres had its beginning in 1992, and staff began to be added, an annual Christmas celebration for staff members and their families was initiated. Early on in these staff Christmas celebrations, there would be a time when I would share “The True Meaning of Christmas” with those gathered.
Also, while my four children were still growing up, every Christmas morning, after breakfast and before presents were allowed to be opened, the family gathered around the Christmas tree with their Bibles and the “True Meaning of Christmas” was shared.
Following is the written version of the “True Meaning of Christmas” I have been sharing through the years with my own family, later in the various churches I pastored, and most recently with those at the Hallelujah Acres Christmas celebrations.
The True Meaning Of Christmas
“Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicolas soon would be there; . . . .”
No my friend, that is not the “True Meaning of Christmas!”
Now let me say right up front that I am not against the celebration of Christmas, Christmas trees, decorations or colored lights, the giving of gifts, the family get-togethers, or the enjoyment of a Christmas dinner with family gathered around the table.
I am not a scrooge! Rhonda and I appreciate these traditional times also.
But in the hustle and bustle of this Christmas celebration 2011, let us not lose sight of whose birthday we are celebrating. Let us not allow Jesus, whose birthday we celebrate, to be missing from the party.
If we allow Jesus to be missing from the party, and remove Him from the celebration, all we have left is “X”mas.
I grow so weary of the merchants wishing us “Happy Holidays.” I realize that many are trying to be politically correct, but what is wrong with wishing each and everyone we come in contact with at this very special season of the year, a great big “MERRY CHRISTMAS?” Let’s keep CHRIST in CHRISTmas!
To that end, I want to share with you “The True Meaning of Christmas”. In order to do that, I am going to use numerous verses from the Bible with occasional thoughts from this preacher added for clarification and continuity:
In The Beginning
“In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters”
(Genesis 1:1-2)
The word “God” used here is translated from the Hebrew word ‘Elohim’, a uni-plural noun denoting more than one. Note also that the “Spirit of God”, the third person of the God-head was present “in the beginning” also.
“AND GOD SAID, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God [Elohim] created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
(Genesis 1:26-27)
Someone is obviously there with God in the “beginning” – Who could this person be? Let’s see if we can find out Who it was that was there “in the beginning” with “God”.
“In the BEGINNING was the Word, and the Word was WITH God, and the Word WAS GOD, The same was IN THE BEGINNING with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.”
(John 1:1-3)
It will be exciting to learn just who this “Word” is that “was with God IN THE BEGINNING” and who also made all things. In the following verse we learn the identity of that person.
“And the Word was MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
(John 1:14)
Here we learn that this “Word” who “was God”, and was “with God”, and who created “all things”, and “was made flesh”, was none other than Jesus Christ, whose birthday we are about to celebrate.
The original Hebrew rendering of Genesis 1:1 reads “In the beginning, God.” What’s the significance? The word “God” in that first sentence is spelled with two letters in Hebrew: aleph and tav. Aleph and tav are the first and the last letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
In Revelation 22:13 Jesus uses the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet to explain who he is: “I am alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” So in both the Hebrew and the Greek, Jesus is saying that before anything was ever created I WAS THERE.
Now let’s move on to a few other portions of Scripture to see what else we can learn about this “Word” whom we now know was Jesus.
A Virgin Shall Conceive
“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
(Isaiah 7:14)
These words were spoken by the prophet Isaiah over 700 years before the birth of Jesus. Now let’s go to the New Testament and see what else we can learn about this “virgin” who the prophet Isaiah said “shall conceive, and bear a son . . .”
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused [engaged] to Joseph, before they came together [as husband and wife], she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.”
(Matthew 1:18)
Before Joseph and Mary were married she was found to be pregnant, not by Joseph’s seed, but by the seed of “the Holy Spirit”. Now Joseph is in a dilemma. He is engaged to a woman who is pregnant. What action should he take?
“Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
(Matthew 1:19)
In those days, being pregnant before marriage was dealt with by exposing them to public humility, so Joseph being a “just man” and not wanting to make her a “public example” decided to not humiliate her.
But obviously he was in a quandary trying to understand how Mary could be with child when he knew he was not the father of the child she was carrying. In his dilemma, an angel comes to his rescue.)
“But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”
(Matthew 1:20)
The Angel tells Joseph, everything will be alright, the seed that impregnated Mary is “of the Holy Ghost.” Here we learn that the Holy Ghost of God was not only in the beginning with God and took part in the creation of this world (Genesis 1:2), but now it is this same Holy Ghost that impregnates Mary.
Note also that the words “Holy Ghost, Spirit of God, and Holy Spirit” are used interchangeable throughout scriptures. They are one and the same.
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
(Matthew 1:21)
Here we learn that this child Mary is to bear is to be given the name “Jesus”, and please note the purpose for which Jesus came into this world: “for he shall save his people from their sins.”
God With Us
“Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet [Isaiah 7:14] saying, Behold, a VIRGIN shall be with child, and shall bring forth a SON, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, GOD WITH US.”
(Matthew 1:22-23)
Now all the pieces begin to fit together. This “virgin” Isaiah the prophet prophesied would “bear a son” some 700 years before Jesus comes on the scene, becomes fulfilled prophecy when the virgin Mary gives birth to a son, Jesus, in Matthew 1:22-23.
And Isaiah’s prophecy of his name being called “EMMANUEL” we learn the interpretation of: “GOD WITH US.” Yes, God took on a fleshly body and was born of a virgin.
Next we learn more details of Jesus’ birth as well as why God took on a body of flesh and came down to this earth.
A Saviour
“And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David) to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And as it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over the flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to ALL PEOPLE. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a SAVIOUR, which is Christ the Lord.”
(Luke 2:1-11)
More Than A Baby
Jesus was more than just a baby born in a manger and whose birthday we celebrate on December 25th each year. Jesus was “God with us”! Yes, God took on a body of flesh so that He could die on an old rugged cross and there shed His own precious blood in order to “redeem” mankind from his sin.
“But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To REDEEM them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”
(Galatians 4:4-5)“The BLOOD of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from of all sin.”
(1 John 1:7)
Dear friend, we are all sinners: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) Because we have sinned, we deserve eternal separation from God? “For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT OF GOD is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:3)
“For God so loved the world, that He GAVE His only begotten son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him should not perish, but HAVE everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be SAVED.”
(John 3:16-17)“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a SAVIOUR, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11). “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS.”
(Matthew 1:21)
My Personal Encounter With Jesus
I was raised in a home that celebrated Christmas. I had to be in bed early Christmas Eve because Santa would be coming and I needed to be asleep if he was going to bring me presents.
Christmas was always an exciting time of the year, celebrated with gifts, family, lots of food, etc. But I was never taught who Jesus, whose birthday we celebrated each Christmas, truly was.
I was brought up in a protestant home, raised in Sunday School, and had perfect attendance pins to prove it. I was baptized in that church, joined that church, and was married in that church. I had been a pretty good boy, hadn’t gotten into too much trouble growing up, and thought for sure because of all my good works was going to heaven when I died.
But I didn’t know Jesus, or even who He was, until…
On May 29, 1957, while attending a Billy Graham Crusade Rally in Madison Square Garden in New York City, I learned: “There is none righteous, no, not one . . . . there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10-12) That night I realized for the first time in my life that I was a sinner, separated from God, and in need of a Saviour.
That very same night, when the invitation was given to receive Jesus as Saviour, I went forward along with hundreds of others, was greeted by a counselor who shared some of the above scriptures, and asked me if I would like to receive Jesus as my personal Saviour.
I said “yes”, and right there in Madison Square Garden in New York City, kneeling beside a folding metal chair on a concrete floor, I asked Jesus to forgive me for my sins, come into my heart, and save me.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation . . . . For whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
(Romans 10:9, 10, 13)
As we celebrate Christmas 2011, do you know Jesus only as a baby born in manger? Or do you know Him as Saviour?
This Christmas, let’s not only keep Christ in Christmas, but let’s also make sure we know Jesus Christ as our own personal Saviour.
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a SAVIOUR, which is Christ the Lord.”
If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, or would like to know more, please let us know and we will be glad to send you information to help you know the joy of sins forgiven and that a home in heaven awaits when your earthly journey has come to an end.
Rhonda And I Wish You And Yours A Very Blessed Christmas!
Next week, the good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high, we will bring you another exciting and informative Hallelujah Health Tip. Next week’s Health Tip will be the last for the year 2011.
Christmas: The Sweetest Time Of The Year
Dec 17th
Christmas is probably the sweetest time of the year! It is especially sweet because it is the time we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
It is also sweet because it is a time when families get together and most people are in a “sweet mood.”
Sadly, it is also a “sweet time” because of the many sweets people love to eat and drink at this time of the year and this can take the “sweet” out of the celebration.
Most likely, you know that God has given each of us an immune system to protect us against germs, viruses, and bacteria.
But did you know that the wrong kind of sweets, and even too many of the good sweets, have the ability to weaken the immune system and make the body a breeding and feeding ground for germs, viruses, and bacteria?
Neutrophils are a special type of white blood cell found in the immune system. They were given us by God to engulf and destroy cold viruses and other invaders before they could perform their dastardly deed of making us sick.
When a person consumes too many sweets, of whatever variety, these neutropils become lethargic, rendering them unable to perform their protective duties.
Sweet Sources
- Sucrose is the name of the table sugar found in most dessert recipes.
- Sucrose is made up of two sugars, glucose and fructose.
- Fructose is a naturally occurring sugar found primarily in fruits.
- All fruits contain sugar, in the form of fructose, glucose and sucrose.
- Honey is about 53% fructose.
- Agave nectar contains about 80% fructose.
- Sucralose, aspartame, and saccharin are not sugars at all, but rather dangerous, artificial, chemical sweeteners.
Sucrose
Sucrose is commonly known as table sugar. It is a white, odorless, crystalline powder with a sweet taste. Sucrose, the scientific term for table sugar, contains equal parts of fructose and glucose, making it a disaccharide: a carbohydrate made of two sugars.
When you eat a piece of fruit, your body metabolizes the sugar, along with the proteins, vitamins and minerals needed to break down the sucrose.
Eating refined table sugar, which lacks those proteins, vitamins and minerals, leads to an imbalance of your body’s chemistry, causing weight gain, impaired thinking, tooth decay, and more.
High Fructose Corn Syrup
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is made up of fructose, the sugar found in fruit, and glucose, which comes from corn. When HFCS is made, the two sugars are combined, usually with more fructose.
In fruit, fructose is not as dangerous, because the fiber in fruit slows down the absorption of the sugars.
However, when HFCS is added to drinks and processed foods, it has the potential to cause real damage to the body because it goes straight to the liver, bypassing the pancreas, which normally processes sugar. The HFCS is then turned into fat and stored in the body.
The Dangers of Fructose
Fructose is metabolized the same way as alcohol and creates toxins within the body. These toxins gradually eat away the liver and can eventually cause cirrhosis of the liver. Fructose contributes to high triglycerides and low HDL, which translates into heart attacks and strokes. A diet high in fructose causes fat build up, leading to insulin resistance, obesity, hypertension, and gout.
What About The Fructose In Fruit?
Fruits in their whole raw form contain buffers such as fiber, vitamins, minerals, live enzymes, and phytochemicals that allow for slow assimilation of the sugar, rather than a rush of it into the blood and liver when the buffers are not present. When these buffers are removed as they are in fruit juices, they can become problematic.
Sugar Alternatives
- Stevia is an herb that has no known damaging effects.
- Medjool dates are a natural sweetener containing both fructose and glucose.
- Organic honey, organic maple syrup and organic agave nectar are natural sugars that contain fructose and glucose and should be used sparingly.
Minimize Sweets
Minimize all sources of sugars. Even raw fruit should be kept below 15% of daily food intake by volume. Avoid fruit juices as much as possible as they concentrate the sugars. When preparing Christmas desserts, use safe sugar alternatives and limit desserts to one serving. These sweet desserts should be reserved for special occasions and not for daily consumption.
Wishing all a happy and HEALTHY Christmas!
Have A Blessed Thanksgiving
Nov 21st
“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves: we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with THANKSGIVING, and into his courts with praise: be THANKFUL unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”
(Psalm 100:1-5)
Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in the United States of America on the fourth Thursday in November.
Officially, it has officially been an annual tradition since 1863 when during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it a national day of thanksgiving. It will be celebrated this year on Thursday, November 24th.
The event that Americans commonly call the “First Thanksgiving” was celebrated to give thanks to God for guiding them safely to the New World and the bountiful harvest He had blessed them with.
It is reported that the first Thanksgiving provided enough food for 13 pilgrims and 90 Native Americans, and that the feast lasted for three days.
This Thursday, our staff here at Hallelujah Acres will be celebrating the day with their families, enjoying and rejoicing in God’s goodness and blessings.
Rhonda and this editor will spend the day thanking God for His multiple blessings to us, spending the day together, and enjoying the Hallelujah feast Rhonda will be preparing: a special Thanksgiving juice; whole grain bread/cornbread stuffing; sweet potato casserole; Rhonda’s Cranberry/Fruit salad; peas and onions; and three desserts including non dairy pumpkin cheesecake, apple pie, and pecan pie.
Everything will be raw except for the peas and onions, stuffing, and pecan pie.
Occasionally someone will ask me if I miss having turkey on the menu for our Thanksgiving Day meal and I can honestly say “NO”!
This will be the 36th Thanksgiving Day I have celebrated without turkey since adopting The Hallelujah Diet in 1976. Not only have I thoroughly enjoyed the 100% plant-based food these past 36 years, but the exceptional health it has provided me
Rhonda and I send our love and blessing to each of our Hallelujah friends around the world at this very special time of the year. May each of us, as the song says, “count our many blessings”:
When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done
The World’s Diet – Dangerously High In Refined Sugar
Nov 15th
Over the last several weeks, we have been learning about the shortcomings and dangers of the world’s diet.
In this Health Tip we are going to examine a substance that makes up a high percentage of the world’s diet — and discover why it is so dangerous to your health.
Refined Sugar Is A Dead, Fiberless Poison
Refined sugar is not a food substance at all. It is a dangerous poison that is consumed by almost every man, woman, and child, in large quantities, on a daily basis.
It is a dead (contains no enzymatic activity), fiberless, and good-for-nothing killer that creates monumental problems within the body.
Refined sugar is something God never intended our physical bodies to consume.
The only sugar God designed our physical bodies to ever have to deal with are the natural sugars found in the living (enzymatically alive), raw fruits and vegetables God created for us in the Garden!
Only 100 years ago, the average annual intake of refined sugar was approximately 5 pounds per person per year. Today, the average annual intake of refined sugar is around 172 pounds per person per year.
This means that if a person is consuming the Standard American Diet (SAD), that person is placing into their God-made physical bodies approximately 50 teaspoons of refined sugar, each and every day of their life.
If a person lives to the age of 80, they will have during their lifetime placed into their body some 13,760 pounds of refined sugar.
My friends that means that the average person on the “world’s diet” consumes nearly 7 tons of refined sugar in their lifetime.
That amount, 13,760 pounds, equals 2,752 five-pound bags of refined sugar.
Can you visualize what 2,752 five pound bags of refined sugar looks like when in the grocery store there are usually no more than ten 5-pound bags on the shelf?
Refined Sugar Is A Dead Food
All refined sugars originated as a natural, unrefined sugar in a living plant. As such, natural sugars contain a complete complement of enzymes, nutrients and fiber, just as God intended.
By the time natural sugar reaches its refined sugar stage, all nutrients have been removed, all enzymes destroyed, and all fiber removed.
As such, refined sugar is a very dead and toxic substance.
Let’s look for a moment at the process of taking sugar cane or sugar beet in its nutrient rich, fiber rich, enzymatically alive state as found in the plant, into a refined, fiberless, lifeless, nutrient-devoid product.
The following information was taken from a newsletter written by Charlotte Gerson of the world-famous Gerson Clinic:
“Sugar is a basic element in starchy food; however, processed sugar is a completely different matter. The sugar we purchase in the supermarket for personal consumption is processed sugar. This kind of sugar is heated up in chalk-milk, so that calcium and protein are extracted. After the process, it becomes alkaloid, destroying all vitamin content. In the second phase the sugar is mixed with acid chalk, carbonic gas, sulfur dioxide and finally with natrium bicarbonate. The mixture is cooked and cooled off several times and thereafter crystallized and centrifuged. The dead mass is then treated with strontium hydroxide. Subsequently it arrives at the refinery where it is passed over chalk carbon acid to clean it. Dark coloring is removed by adding sulfuric acid and then it is filtered with bone charcoal. Finally, it is colored with Indathrenblue or the highly toxic Ultramarine. This product’s chemical composition is C12H22O11, which you can buy in shops as ‘pure cane’ sugar.”
Refined Sugar Is Fragmented
Through heating and mechanical and chemical processing, all vitamins, proteins, fats, enzymes and fiber – indeed, every single nutrient is removed until nothing but pure white sugar, pure ‘naked calories,’ pure refined carbohydrate remains.
Sixty-four food elements are destroyed in the processing. Fragmented foods like these set up nutritional imbalances that precipitate health problems galore.
Refined Sugar Is Highly Acidic
Like animal source foods and refined grains, refined sugar is also extremely ‘acid forming.’
In fact, refined sugar is possibly the most acidic substance one can consume. Soft drinks, which usually contain at least 10 teaspoons of refined sugar, have a pH between 2.8 and 3.5, making it the greatest source of acid we can place into our bodies.
In an effort to neutralize all of this acid, the body takes vital alkaline minerals, calcium being the most plentiful, from the body’s bone structure in an effort to neutralize the acidity. The acidity found in all animal source foods and refined grains cause the body to lose calcium as well.
This highly refined acidic sugar intake, along with the consumption of acidic animal and acidic grain source foods, causes the body to remove so much calcium from the bones and teeth that the bones become osteoporotic (porous) and teeth decay.
Refined Sugar Creates Blood Sugar Disorders
One pound of apples contains 263 calories, whereas one pound of candy contains 1800 calories.
Refined sugar is concentrated far beyond what the God-created human body was designed to process at one time, while the body processes the much smaller amount of natural sugar found in apples just fine.
If a body is going to survive, it must find a way to somehow cope with the incredibly high amounts of sugar found in refined sugar. The body learns how to cope with it, but in so doing, often creates two new physical problems – diabetes and hypoglycemia.
Diabetes
The primary cause of diabetes is the fat contained in animal products which coats the cells and hinders the insulin from entering the cell.
But when a diabetic consumes refined sugar, the pancreas has difficulty producing adequate insulin when the blood sugar rises. Concentrated amounts of sugar cause a rapid rise in blood sugar.
Chronic intake of refined sugar eventually exhausts the pancreas as it tries to compensate. Thus the diabetic is condemned to having to take ever-increasing amounts of insulin to compensate.
Diabetes is the #3 killer disease in America, preceded only by cardiovascular related problems and cancer.
Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia is the flip side of diabetes. Hypoglycemia occurs when the body still has a fairly strong pancreas. The body overreacts to concentrated sugar intake and releases too much insulin from the pancreas. Blood sugar levels then plummet far below the normal stable level.
The suffering hypoglycemic often experiences fatigue, headaches; mental depression, and irritability.
Depression is often dealt with by the intake of more refined sugar, and so the hypoglycemic is caught in an endless cycle that causes the pancreas to wear out from constant over stimulation.
This often results in diabetes, because now the sufferer cannot produce sufficient insulin for normal metabolic activities.
Refined Sugar Promotes Emotional Instability
After a “sugarholic” has consumed a box of candy — or bag of cookies, or any large amount of refined sugar — they know how self-abused and depressed they feel.
Indeed, studies reveal a strong link between juvenile and adult criminal offenses and sugar addiction.
Similar research reveals a link between mental illness and sugar abuse. Hypoglycemic reactions, for the very sensitive consumer, promote extreme irrationality and emotional instability, which can lead to aggressiveness.
Studies reveal that sugar may be as involved in mental illness, divorce, and crime as alcohol has been found to be.
Refined sugar is one of the major contributing factors to depression!
ADD and ADHD are running rampant among our children and even some adults!
Isn’t it a paradox that these emotional problems, caused by a very toxic and poisonous addictive drug called refined sugar, are then treated with another poison — like Ritalin or Prozac!
How sad!
If your child is having a behavioral problem, why not consider removing all refined sugar in their diet instead?
Refined Sugar Contributes To Heart Disease
Animal fat is not the only contributing factor in heart disease.
Those on a highly refined sugar diet show significantly higher levels of fat in their blood than those who eat no refined sugar.
This high fat content in the blood is directly related to the development of plaque build-up within the arteries, then to hardening of the arteries, and ultimately to heart attacks and strokes.
Refined Sugar Leads To Addiction And Weight Gain
Refined sugar is highly caloric in its pure form.
But then it is often made worse by combining it with something containing high fat, like shortening, along with some salt.
This produces a tempting goodie like candy, cookies, cake, pie, fudge, a donut, or cinnamon bun.
Often these high sugar foods are consumed with a high calorie sugar drink, like soda pop.
All of this sugar contributes to weight gain.
If a person consumes just one 12-ounce can of soda pop a day for one year, that 10 teaspoons of sugar found in each can of soda could add 12 pounds to their weight in just one year.
When these excess calories are not burned for energy, they are stored as fat, contributing to the obesity epidemic we are seeing today among children and adults alike. Obesity is an underlying factor in not only cardiovascular disease but most other chronic diseases.
Furthermore, because of the way it plays havoc with emotions, refined sugar is highly addicting – it works exactly like a drug. This means that once a sugarholic sufferer has given into this crystalline sweetness, they can’t stop consuming.
Refined sugar is every bit as addictive as nicotine and alcohol and withdrawal from it can be as difficult as withdrawing from cocaine!
We have found that when a person decides to adopt The Hallelujah Diet, they usually do not have a great deal of difficulty eliminating the animal products, white flour products, table salt, or even caffeine (which is another addictive drug).
Many find that the most difficult substance to eliminate is refined sugar.
Sugar has a powerful addictive influence upon many people.
Have you ever noticed that children, who are allowed to have candy, are always asking for more?
They are never satisfied no matter how much you give them! This is because their little bodies have become addicted to sugar and their bodies are screaming for a fix.
NOTE – For those parents who would like to have a better understanding of how refined sugar is affecting their child’s behavior, I would like to recommend a book written by Barbara Reed Stitt titled: “Food and Behavior.”
Refined Sugar Compromises The Immune System
Let’s remember that the immune system is what God built into your body to protect you from the germs, viruses, and bacteria of this world.
The immune system is our first line of defense!
But refined sugar is an immune system suppressant — it knocks out this first line of defense.
That is why those who consume refined sugar find themselves susceptible to colds, the flu, and all sorts of other physical breakdowns, while those who consume The Hallelujah Diet, which contains no refined sugar, rarely if ever experiences a cold, the flu, or other physical breakdowns.
This editor hasn’t experienced a cold or the flu since eliminating refined sugar and adopting a primarily raw, plant-based diet over 35 years ago!
Don’t forget, God tells us we are going to reap what we sow…
“Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
Sugar Contributes To Myriad Physical Problems
Refined sugar is associated with malnutrition and decreased resistance to disease.
Refined sugar impacts quality of life — it increases the severity of PMS; decreases cognitive or intellectual function, especially in children; contributes to heart disease and cancer; and so much more.
Following is just a partial list of other health problems related to the intake of refined sugar:
- Acne
- Addiction to drugs and caffeine
- Alcoholism
- Allergies
- Anxiety
- Behavioral problems
- Binge eating
- Bloating
- Bone loss
- Candida
- Depression
- Difficulty concentrating
- Eczema
- Edema
- Emotional problems
- Fatigue
- Food cravings
- Hormonal problems
- Hyperactivity
- Insomnia
- Menstrual difficulties
- Mental illness
- Mood swings
- Premature aging
- Psoriasis
- … and the list goes on and on.
Conclusion
Refined sugar and products made with it become the cause or contributing cause of many of the physical problems being experienced today.
Refined sugar products are all dead, fiberless, and following animal source foods, are the second most popular of the deadly, killer foods of our day.
No wonder God says in Hosea 4:6:
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
Is it not a sad commentary, that instead of dealing with our physical problems by eliminating their causes, we deal with symptoms?
We take a poisonous medication instead. It will never fix the problem — but rather exacerbate it!
Almost every physical problem we experience in a lifetime, other than accidents, is because we have failed to nourish our physical bodies the way God intended in Genesis 1:29!
“AND GOD SAID, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed (vegetable), which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat (food).”
Genesis 1:29
If you are consuming the “world’s diet”…
And suffering the consequences with all those physical problems you keep asking God and the doctors to fix…
Isn’t it about time you considered changing your diet from the “world’s diet” to “GOD’s diet…
So that you can experience the abundant health God designed for you?
Next week, the good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high, we will explore another item that is consumed in large quantities by the average person on the world’s diet that is also devoid of fiber…

The World’s Diet Is Dangerously Low In Fiber
Nov 8th
In recent Health Tips we have learned that in order to properly digest food, the food must contain fiber. The foods most consume today are lacking in fiber, and when we consume foods lacking in fiber, physical problems manifest.
Fiber — An Absolute Necessity For Proper Digestion
Garden source foods are the only foods on planet earth that contain FIBER!
This means that any food that comes from any source outside of the garden is a food devoid of FIBER.
Animal source foods are completely devoid of fiber. This, along with other factors, makes animal source foods a major cause of the digestive and colon problems so many people suffer with today.
For years there has been a number of writers promoting a “low carb, high protein” diet. This type of diet is high in animal flesh (which is totally devoid of fiber) and low in carbohydrates (which are high in fiber).
A major reason why these diets are so dangerous is because they are seriously lacking in fiber.
Refined Carbohydrates Contain No Fiber
Another “food” consumed by most people in very large quantities today is refined carbohydrates — which are also devoid of fiber.
Refined carbohydrates, because they are devoid of fiber, are more than just another cause of constipation. They are a burden on the liver and intestines and increase the risk of chronic disease.
God’s plan for the proper digestion of foods requires fiber, but both refined carbohydrates and animal source foods are devoid of fiber.
Once a person understands this fact, it helps them understand what foods they must consume to promote good health and what foods cause their health to decline.
It is interesting to note that low carb diets cite carbohydrates for today’s obesity epidemic.
Yet when we look at the history of mankind, we learn that for almost 6,000 years people have thrived on a high carbohydrate, low protein diet — and most were NOT overweight!
Here’s why: Until recently most people in the world nourished their bodies with UNREFINED carbohydrates – not with refined carbohydrates.
What has changed?
Why are 60% of Americans overweight and an ever increasing number of our youth diagnosed as “obese”?
The problem is NOT naturally occurring, unrefined carbohydrates (which contain loads of plant fiber), but rather REFINED carbohydrates — which contain virtually NO fiber.
For example, a grain of wheat is an unrefined carbohydrate, while “enriched” flour made from that grain of wheat (which has had its fiber removed) is a refined carbohydrate.
What’s the difference?
- Unrefined carbohydrates are vitally important in meeting the nutritional and fiber needs of our bodies.
- Refined carbohydrates are devastating to our body, causing myriad physical breakdowns.
Over 60% Of Americans Are Overweight
Today, what is one of the primary concerns people have regarding their physical bodies?
Is it not concern over being overweight?
And what products are constantly being advertised to combat this problem? Are they not weight loss products claiming to help a person lose that excess weight?
Overweight and obese people are vulnerable targets for health care fraud because a high percentage of the people in our country are desperate to lose weight.
So when “low carb, high protein” diets came on the scene telling Americans that they could eat all the protein and cholesterol they wanted and lose weight, many jumped on the bandwagon.
Sadly, these weight loss plans trashed an entire food group. But of even greater importance, they trashed the diet God told man he should consume in Genesis 1:29, the blueprint for The Hallelujah Diet.
That fact alone should have triggered a huge red flag because the Genesis 1:29 diet is high in carbohydrates and low in protein.
Ask yourself… does God know best with regard to how man should nourish his body?
Or is it man’s job to know best?
Low Carbohydrate Diets And Science
Science reveals that a high fiber diet of complex, unrefined carbohydrates and low protein is the safest choice for long-term health.
By contrast, The World Health Organization, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and American Dietetic Association, all warn of the long-term risks of a low-carb, high protein diet.
Those who promote a low-carb diet claim that carbohydrates raise blood sugar levels and thus insulin levels. They then go on to claim that elevated insulin levels trigger the storage of fat. Thus they conclude that it is carbohydrates that make people fat.
What they fail to reveal is that it is the REFINED carbohydrates that are the culprit here and not the unrefined.
The results of many years of well documented research reveal the huge benefits of a plant-based diet of unrefined carbohydrates that is low saturated fat diet.
In addition, scientists have abundant evidence showing that the time proven, plant-based diets of large population groups also prevent disease while increasing life span.
Ever Since Adam And Eve
Ever since God gave Adam and Eve the original high carbohydrate/low protein, plant-based diet in Genesis 1:29, most of the world’s population has relied primarily on plant foods for the bulk of their diet.
Carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, and legumes have formed the foundation of the traditional diets for most regions of the world.
Sadly, over the past couple of decades, due to the strong influence of the United States on the world, many who once consumed these traditional diets have adopted our standard American diet (SAD) of highly refined carbohydrates and high protein. Doing so has resulted in a serious erosion of health around the world.
Today we see a dramatic increase in obesity and death rates due to heart disease and cancer in many countries of the world, just as it has and continues to produce in the United States.
Here’s the truth of the matter…
If the body does not receive sufficient carbohydrates, it will convert protein and/or fat into glucose (a carbohydrate), to meet its carbohydrate needs.
So why not get your carbs from the plant?! Especially when getting them from animal source foods comes with a lot of negative baggage.
Not All Carbohydrates Are Created Equal
A good example of a good carb and a bad carb would be a potato and a French fry. Here, food processors have turned a heart healthy unrefined carbohydrate (the unprocessed potato) into an artery clogging French fry.
Research scientists at Harvard University have discovered that individuals who eat a diet high in unrefined carbohydrates significantly decrease their risk of diabetes and heart disease – while individuals who eat a diet high in refined carbohydrates more than double their risk of heart disease.
How To Tell A Good Carb From A Bad One
If a carbohydrate comes packaged as nature produced it – it is a good carbohydrate. You can be assured it is safe and good for you! All plant source foods in their natural state are good carbohydrates.
If a carbohydrate is packaged by man, it is a bad carb. Bad carbohydrates include those foods that are refined, fried in fat, dipped in sugar, or have had refined sugar or other artificial ingredients added.
Sickness Is Not God’s Will For His People
The world’s diet is a dangerous diet because it is lacking in fiber and the nutrients the body needs to build and protect our health, while GOD’s diet is loaded with fiber and provides the nutrients the body needs to produce optimal health and protect it from disease.
Sickness is not “God’s will” for his people. (3 John 2)
By consuming the world’s diet we not only destroy our health, but spend huge amounts of money in an effort to restore the health that was destroyed by consuming the world’s diet.
There is a better way than the world’s way of nourishing our God created physical bodies.
That way is God’s way as clearly outlined in Genesis 1:29. AMEN!
Next week…
The good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high, we will explore another item that is consumed in large quantities by the average person on the world’s diet that is also devoid of fiber. Trust you will join us next week!
