Norman W. Walker: Juicing Pioneer
Mar 1st
In recent Health Tips, I have shared the life stories of men who have greatly inspired and encouraged me in my quest to learn how to live a long and healthy life on planet earth so that I could better maintain a body fit for the Master’s use.
Jack LaLanne and Paul C. Bragg are two of my three “Health Heroes,” named as such because each of them, though earlier in life were seriously ill, changed their diet and lifestyle, restored their health, and went on to maintain a strong and healthy body until nearly the Century Mark.
In this Health Tip we are going to examine the life of Norman W. Walker, my third “Health Hero” who was born on January 4, 1886 and died June 6, 1985 at the age 99 years and 5 months.
Dr. Norman Walker’s First Half Century of Life
Norman W. Walker, D.Sc., Ph.D., was born in Genoa, Liguria, Italy to Robert Walker, a Baptist Minister from Scotland. The family later moved to England where in October 1910, on the S.S. Lusitania, arrived in New York City, and on November 22, 1918 was granted U. S. citizenship.
In his early 50s, Dr. Walker became seriously ill. Rather than going the traditional medical route for his sickness, he turned to Dr. H. William Baum, a chiropractor and physical therapist. At the suggestion of Dr. Baum, Dr. Walker turned his back on the Standard American Diet (SAD) of his day, and changed his diet to raw vegetarian.
(EDITORS NOTE: In 1978, while on staff as a lecturer and head gardener at the Shangri-La Health Resort in Bonita Springs, Florida, I personally met and had an extended talk with Dr. Baum. He shared with me a lot of information about Dr. Walker and gave me what was then a recent photograph of both he and Dr. Walker. Dr. Baum personally autographed the photo on the back side with the words: “To George Malkmus, Compliments Dr. H. W. Baum.” (see below) Also on the back of the picture were the words: “Dr. Norman Walker, Natal Day – January 28, 1867.” Since we know for sure Dr. Walker died on June 6, 1985, that date of birth would have made Dr. Walker 119 years old at his death. This 1867 date of birth conflicts with more recent research which places his birth date as January 4, 1886, which would have made him 99 years and 5 months at death. No matter his actual age at death, Dr. Walker lived a very long life.)

Dr. Walker’s Last Half Century of Life
Following his conversion to a raw vegetarian diet, for nearly a half-century, Norman W. Walker went on to prove through research and personal experience that well being and long life can go hand-in-hand. Modern-day nutritionists and medical researchers are just now discovering some of the truths Dr. Walker knew and expounded upon.
Dr. Walker himself became living proof that a longer, healthier life may be achieved, starting even in later life, through proper diet, mental soundness, and intelligent body care. He left behind his research and unique contributions to health for all to read in his numerous writings. (His books are still available for all to read and are carried by Hallelujah Acres.)
Dr. Walker was notable for at least three reasons: (1) He was author of at least eight books published from 1937 to 1978. (2) He was the inventor of an important and innovative commercial juicer that is still manufactured today. (3) He was a pioneer in the raw foods, juicing, and vegetarian movements, each of which has grown in size and scope over the years.
For several years, Dr. Walker ran a health ranch in Arizona. Eventually, he gave up the ranch to devote his later years entirely to research and writing.
Dr. Walker’s Views on Nutrition
Dr. Walker advocated a diet based solely on raw and fresh foods like vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts. He considered cooked or baked foods dead and therefore unhealthful, saying that “while such food can, and does, sustain life in the human system, it does so at the expense of progressively degenerating health, energy, and vitality.”
As a strict vegan, he did not recommend the eating of meat, dairy or dairy products (with the exception of raw goat milk), fish or eggs. His diet suggestions also avoided such staple foods as breads, pasta, [white] rice and [refined] sugar.
Dr. Walker devoted large sections of many of his books to the description of the different organs of the human body, explaining how the digestive system and the various glands work. He considered a healthy colon key to one’s health, and estimated that 80% of all disease begins in the colon. He wrote: “Every organ, gland and cell in the body is affected by the condition of the colon.”
According to Walker, the number one affliction underlying almost every ailment is constipation. In other words, it is “the primary cause of nearly every disturbance of the human system.” This is because the blood vessels lining the colon collect nutrients missed by the small intestine.
In his book, Pure and Simple Natural Weight Control, Dr. Walker explained, “If the feces in the colon have putrefied and fermented, any toxic elements present in it would pass into the bloodstream. What would otherwise be nutritional instead generates toxemia, a condition in which the blood contains poisonous products. . . .”
Pimples can be an indication of the presence of toxemia. Walker maintained that the Standard American Diet (SAD) causes the colon to be filled with toxins that strain the eliminative channels and ultimately, the immune system.
Dr. Walker believed that dairy products had an especially deleterious effect on human health. He testified to the disappearance of many ailments upon the exclusion of dairy products. He explained that pathogenic organisms find an ideal breeding ground in the excess mucus that dairy products generate.
He cited the following diseases as being aggravated or caused by mucus conditions in which dairy products are the major offenders: undulant fever, colds, flu, bronchial troubles, tuberculosis, asthma, hay fever, sinus trouble, pneumonia, and certain types of arthritis.
Dr. Walker in 1910 established the Norwalk Laboratory of Nutritional Chemistry and Scientific Research in New York and later discovered the therapeutic value of fresh vegetable juices. He discovered carrot juice. He also developed the Triturator Juicer, known today as The Norwalk Press Juicer, the granddaddy of juicers.
The present “juicing craze” is directly attributable to the incredible dedication of this great man. Thousands of people credit Dr. Walker’s live vegetable juice therapy for healing them of incurable diseases, including Jay Kordich, known as the “Juiceman”, who popularized juicing in the United States with extensive television advertising in the 1990s.
When Jay Kordich had cancer, he met and was tremendously inspired by Dr. Walker. After healing himself of cancer through the raw food diet and juice therapy promoted by Dr. Walker, Jay worked with Dr. Walker beginning in the 1940s and right up until Dr. Walker’s death.
Dr. Walker’s discoveries and the advocating of raw vegetable juices in the restoration of health has lived on in the promotion of juicing by Jay Kordich, Paul Bragg, Jack LaLanne, and yes, even to this day, by this editor and Hallelujah Acres.
Dr. N. W. Walker was living proof that a longer, healthier, more enjoyable life is achievable through mental poise, intelligent body care, and the abundant use of raw vegetable juices.
Dr. Walker observed a raw food diet, with the abundant use of raw vegetable juices right up until his death at the age of 99 years and 5 months. He also remained both physically and mentally healthy and active up to the day of his death, when he peacefully died during his sleep one night at his home.
EDITOR’S CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
Dr. Norman W. Walker, along with Paul Bragg, and Jack LaLanne, my Health Heroes, are men I have tried to emulate. It is my hope that after reading their testimonies, you will make them your Health Heroes as well, and that you will desire to emulate their diets and lifestyle as I have.
What Dr. Walker, Paul Bragg, and Jack LaLanne, preached and practiced for many, many, years is what this editor has been preaching and practicing for the past 35 years.
If you, my friend, are not on The Hallelujah Diet, if you will but stop putting the world’s SAD diet into your body and start eating those foods God told us to eat in Genesis 1:29 and start exercising, then you too can most likely experience the miracle in your body that Dr. Walker, Paul Bragg, Jack LaLanne, and this editor have experienced.
And please don’t say that you are too old or sickly to begin. No matter how old or sickly you may be, in most instances a change in diet and lifestyle can start you on the road to recovery – a road that can restore your health, and possibly save your life.
Paul C. Bragg – Still A Health Legend
Feb 22nd
Too many of God’s people fail to properly take care of their bodily temple and thus never fulfill the earthly ministry to which God has called them.
However, three men have greatly inspired and encouraged me in my quest to learn how to live a long and healthy life on planet earth so that I could better maintain a body fit for the Master’s use. The names of these three men are Jack LaLanne, Paul C. Bragg, and Norman W. Walker.
I call each of these men my “Health Heroes” because each of them, though earlier in life were seriously ill, changed their diet and lifestyle, restored their health, and then maintained a strong and healthy body until nearly the century mark.
In last week’s Health Tip we shared with you the life of Jack LaLanne who lived to be 96. In this Health Tip we are going to examine the life of Paul Bragg, the very person who inspired Jack LaLanne to change his diet and lifestyle.
Paul Bragg Had Tuberculosis as a Teenager
Paul Bragg also began his journey into physical fitness as a very sickly teenager and lived to the ripe old age of 95, dying just one year younger than Jack LaLanne. Paul Bragg’s death was a tragic one and there is no telling how long he would have lived if it hadn’t been for a drowning event in Hawaii while surfing at the age of 95 in 1976.*
As a 16-year old teenager, Paul developed tuberculosis. Rather than following the traditional medical treatments and allowing that illness to destroy his life as it had for so many others before him, he developed an eating, breathing and exercising program. In so doing, he rebuilt his body into an ageless, tireless, pain-free citadel of glowing, super health.
Bragg teamed with the great fitness expert Bernard McFadden to introduce America and the world to the benefits of Physical Culture at the turn of the century. He worked with Luther Burbank in California to produce healthful, organically grown fruits and vegetables.
He excelled in running, swimming, biking, progressive weight training and mountain climbing. He made an early pledge to God, in return for his renewed health, to spend the rest of his life showing others the road to super health. He honored his pledge! Paul Bragg’s health pioneering made a difference worldwide.
Bragg advocated using deep breathing, water fasts, organic foods, drinking distilled water, juicing, exercise, and listening to one’s body as methods of prolonging one’s lifespan.
Bragg’s dynamic worldwide Health Crusades and burden to help others obtain health and fitness led him to set more firsts in the history of the Health Movement than any other individual in history.
Bragg’s Amazing Pioneering Achievements
- Bragg originated and opened the first health food store in America.
- He also inspired followers to open health food stores across America as well as in other countries around the world.
- Bragg’s health crusades pioneered the first health lectures across America.
- He was the first to introduce pineapple juice and tomato juice to America and promote fresh vegetable juice therapy.
- Bragg was the first to introduce honey and date sugar nationwide.
- He pioneered the first radio health program from Hollywood three times daily in the 1920s to help spread his health and fitness message.
- Paul Bragg and his daughter Patricia pioneered the first health television show from Hollywood to help spread the Bragg health crusade message. On their show they included exercises, healthy recipes, visual demonstrations and guest appearances of health-minded people.
- Bragg opened the first health restaurants and the first health spas in America.
- He created the first health foods and then went on to make them available to people across America.
- Bragg introduced herbal teas, health beverages, vitamin drinks, seven-grain cereals and crackers, healthy cosmetics, calcium, vitamins and mineral supplements, wheat germ, digestive enzymes from papaya, herbal and kelp seasonings, and amino acids.
- He inspired others to follow (Schiff, Shaklee, Twin Labs, Herbalife, etc.) and now thousands of health items are available in health food stores worldwide.
Living Proof His Health and Fitness Way of Life Worked
For nearly a century, Paul Bragg became living proof that his “Health and Fitness Way of Life” worked wonders with those who followed his teachings:
A legend and beloved health crusader to millions, Bragg was the inspiration and personal health and fitness advisor to top Olympic stars from 4-time swimming gold medalist Murray Rose – to 3-time track gold medalist Betty Cuthbert of Australia – to pole-vaulting gold medalist Don Bragg and many others.
In 1929 Paul Bragg began his health lecture tours where he went to various American cities, rented a facility, advertised heavily, and then gave a series of lectures – usually over a period of five or six consecutive evenings. His lectures were free.
It was while Paul was lecturing on physical fitness to a crowd of 3,000, he became the influence that turned Jack LaLanne’s sickly life to one of health and fitness. “Bragg saved my life at age 15 when I attended the Bragg Crusade in Oakland, California” said Jack LaLanne.
From the earliest days, Bragg advised the greatest Hollywood stars and giants of American business – J. C. Penney, Dr. Scholl and Conrad Hilton to name just a few who he inspired to long, successful, healthy, active lives.
Bragg was the personal consultant on diet and physical fitness to Hollywood’s greatest stars – Douglass Fairbanks, Sr., Tom Mix, Gloria Swanson, Rudolph Valentio, Ethel Barrymore, Ruth Roland, Lon Chaney, and many other public performers. Bragg also counseled kings, queens, politicians, sportsmen and statesmen.
He also wrote many successful books, such as “Bragg’s Healthy Lifestyle; Healthy Eating Without Confusion; Toxicless Diet; Super Brain Power; along with numerous others. Many of his books are still available today.
It is reported that Paul C. Bragg’s excellent health was seriously damaged in a surfing accident in Hawaii several months prior to his death. He apparently drowned but with CPR was brought back to life.
Several months later he fulfilled a speaking engagement in the States, and while on the platform lecturing, fainted. The rescue squad was called and, over the objections of his team, drugs were administered, which became the cause of his death.
Some Words from Paul Bragg
As shared earlier, Paul Bragg wrote many books. We will close this article with some of his own words, taken from his book “Healthful Eating”:
Five hundred years before the birth of Christ, Hippocrates, the father of the natural healing sciences said: “Food will be your medicine, and medicine will be your food.” Hippocrates further stated: “Strength, growth, nourishment result from the right food.”
These statements are equally true today. We know that the only real cures come from food. As an example, let’s take scurvy, the disease that kills thousands around the world every year. It can definitely be cured by massive doses of Vitamin C. Beriberi is another deficiency disease for which massive doses of Vitamin B-Complex can effect a cure.
I could go on and on telling of the importance of nutrition in ridding the body of diseases. Drugs cannot make such claims. Food is the magic healer. Keep constantly in mind the words, “Food will be your medicine, and medicine will be your food.”
Travel the world over, and in no country will you find the abundance of food that the United States produces. Go into the supermarkets of any city or town in the U.S.A. and you will find the shelves loaded with every imaginable kind of food. . . .
Yet with all this great array of food, we are poorly nourished. And the hidden hungers of the overfed are as much cause for concern as the food deficiencies of the underfed. Being overfed can be even more dangerous than being underfed, unless one is really starved.
Just as there is malnourishment among the poor, there is also malnourishment among the well-to-do. In both cases, important nutrients are missing in the daily diet. Too much rich food – such as fatty meats, dairy products, eggs, sugary and salty foods – are just as dangerous to good health as too little food. . . .
MY EARLY EXPERIENCE
My life was saved by the science of nutrition. At the age of 16, I had a terminal case of T.B. By the grace of God, I was led to Dr. August Rollier in Leysin, Switzerland, a man who was a hundred years ahead of his time in the science of nutrition. From a boy dying with a vicious disease – for whom not one doctor or sanatorium in America could hold out any hope of recovery – I became a healthy young man.
Dr. Rollier put me on a diet of whole foods – raw fruit and vegetables . . . . in less than two years I was not merely an arrested case of T.B. – I was completely cured.
SEVENTY YEARS LATER
Ever since my recovery I have had a painless, tireless, ageless body. I have been an outstanding athlete in many sports. And today, as a great-grandfather, I am still an athlete – at the age when most men of my calendar years are half dead, senile, feeble old people with one foot in the grave [or already in the grave]).
I still jog, swim miles at a time, climb some of the world’s highest mountains, play fast tennis, practice progressive weight training with barbells and dumbbells, I write several books a year, and have a lecture schedule that takes me around the world. Plus, I continue my intensive research on nutrition and life extension.
I am a product of well balanced nutrition. As far as I know, I am the oldest full time practicing nutritionist alive. I still have all my own teeth, and a scalp full of healthy hair. My blood pressure is 124/73, and I have a strong, steady pulse of 64. My 20/20 vision is as keen as an eagle’s, and my hearing as sharp as an alert animal’s.
Let me state again that, from a terminal case of T.B. in my teens, I have attained this vigorous great-grandfatherhood through proper nutrition [and vigorous daily exercise].
“To my mind the greatest mistake a person can make is to remain ignorant when he is surrounded, every day of his life, by the knowledge he needs to grow and be healthy and successful. It’s all there. We need only to observe, read, learn, and apply.”
EDITOR’S CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
Paul Bragg and Jack LaLanne are two of my Health Heroes, men I have tried to emulate in my life these past 35 years. It is my hope that after reading their testimonies, you will make them your Health Heroes as well, and that you will desire to emulate their diets and lifestyle as I have. Share this article with your children!
What both Paul Bragg and Jack LaLanne preached and practiced for some 80 years is what this editor has been preaching and practicing for the past 35 years.
If you my friend are not on The Hallelujah Diet, if you will but stop putting the world’s SAD diet into your body and start eating those foods God told us to eat in Genesis 1:29, and start exercising, then you too can most likely experience the miracle in your body that both Paul Bragg, Jack LaLanne, and this editor have experienced.
Thirty-five years ago, at age 42, this editor had a weak and sickly body in serious decline. After doctors told me “its colon cancer,” it was Evangelist Lester Roloff who told me it was my rotten diet that had caused the problem and that only good nutrition and exercise could restore my health. Following Brother Roloff’s advice, it was not long before my health had been restored.
I, like Paul Bragg and Jack LaLanne listened to words of wisdom, changed my diet and started exercising. Within weeks my body started to respond as the rectal bleeding stopped and within a year my cancer was gone. That was 35 years ago.
May Paul Bragg and Jack LaLanne, and yes this editor, be an inspiration to you my friend to change your diet and start exercising!
And please don’t say that you are too old or sickly to begin. No matter how old or sickly you may be, in most instances a change in diet and lifestyle can start you on a road to recovery – A road that can restore your health, and possibly save your life.
(*Please note: We understand there is some controversy about Paul Bragg’s birth date. Bragg claimed he was born in 1881 in Fairfax County, Virginia ["People" Magazine, 8/11/1975], but genealogical research indicates he was born on February 6, 1895 in Batesville, Indiana.)
Dangers of Fluoride Exposed
Feb 19th
Feb. 7, 2011 NEWS RELEASE
Tenn. House Speaker, Other Legislators Call for Halt to State Promotion of Fluoridation
A bipartisan group of Republican and Democrat legislators in the Tennessee House of Representatives sent a letter today to State Health Commissioner Susan Cooper, asking that she direct State Health Department employees to halt activities that promote the practice of water fluoridation. . . .
The legislators’ letter points out that the Gerber baby products company is now selling an unfluoridated water so that parents of young babies will not use fluoridated water when mixing milk formula.
Noting that fluorides can cause a permanent disfiguring staining of teeth called “dental fluorosis,” the group expressed concern that “many Tennessee families are unaware” about Gerber’s water, and that citizens may not be able to afford unfluoridated water for their babies’ milk, nor have funds to repair fluorosis stains on their or their children’s teeth.
The group also noted growing calls for “Fluoridegate” investigations, inquiries that would look into questions now surfacing about why the Centers for Disease Control and other groups have not openly communicated important science that contradicts years of assurances that fluoridation has been exhaustively researched and poses no health risks.
The letter states, “There is real reason to be concerned that the whole story about fluorides was not previously shared with us. The legal community is now looking att pursuing cases related to harm from fluorides. This may have implications for our state’s water utilities.”
Daniel G. Stockin of The Lillie Center Inc., a firm working to end the practice of fluoridation, states, “Every water district and organization supporting fluoridation across the country needs to pay attention to the cascading developments. There is an absolute tsunami of media glare, Fluoridegate investigations, and fluoride court cases heading ashore, and fluoride promoters can either reject fluoridation now and ride the wave in, or risk being churned under by it.”
Disquieting news about fluorides is mounting from a number of directions.
In January the Environmental Protection Agency proposed phasing out use of a fluoride-containing pesticide used in food storage and processing facilities. The action followed an earlier announcement by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department that it recommended lowering previously-sanctioned amounts of fluoride in drinking water.
The Tennessee legislators’ letter refers to news that may surprise many consumers, that the National Research Council acknowledges kidney patients, diabetics, seniors and babies to be “susceptible subpopulations” that are particularly vulnerable to harm from ingested fluorides.
In a statement that appears to contradict assurances by the Centers for Disease Control that extensive research proves fluoridation is safe, the chairman of the National Research Council fluoride committee stated in a January 2008 Scientific American article, “…when we looked at the studies that have been done, we found that many of these questions are unsettled and we have much less information than we should, considering how long this [fluoridation] has been going on.”
“Water fluoridation is collapsing,” asserts Stockin. “It’s shocking, but now we have proof that essential whole body health effects studies were never done. The legal community is becoming involved. Harmed groups such as minorities, kidney patients, and parents with children are angry. Water districts are saying, ‘What business do we have medicating people through water?’ And there is growing bipartisan support across the country for halting fluoridation and conducting Fluoridegate investigations.”
EDITOR’S NOTE: For nearly 20 years this editor has been warning people of the dangers of fluoridation. Now, at long last, it appears others are becoming concerned and this editor is rejoicing. For the past nearly 20 years this editor has been using and promoting distilled water, water free of any fluoride or other pollutants. As for parents using expensive Gerber water to mix with baby formulas, using distilled water would be far less expensive, but breast milk is the best and it’s FREE for the baby’s taking.
Jack LaLanne Dies At Age 96
Feb 15th
There have been three men who have greatly inspired and encouraged me in my quest to learn how to live a long and healthy life on planet Earth so that I could better maintain a body that was fit for the Master’s use. The names of these three men are Norman W. Walker, Paul C. Bragg, and Jack LaLanne.
I call these three men my “Health Heroes” because each of them maintained a strong and healthy body until nearly the century mark. Too many of God’s people fail to properly take care of their bodily temple and thus never fulfill the ministry God has called them to.
One of the reasons Norman W. Walker, Paul C. Bragg, and Jack LaLanne are on my Health Heroes list is not only because they talked a good talk, but that they walked their talk. In this Health Tip I want to begin sharing a little about what each of these Health Heroes of mine talked and then I will show you how their walk backed up their talk with exceptional health and long lives.
Jack LaLanne Dies at Age 96
On January 25, 2011, USA TODAY had these blazing headlines along with a huge picture of Jack LaLanne flexing his muscles on page 5D:
“Jack LaLanne 1914-2011 – The larger-than-life figure who reshaped our figures – LaLanne helped launch America’s obsession with physical fitness.”
The article then went on to report: “Leaders of the fitness world are remembering Jack LaLanne, who died Sunday at age 96, as a pioneer who set an example all his life that inspired people of all ages. LaLanne, widely considered the founding father of the fitness movement in the United States, preached strength training and healthy eating long before it was fashionable.”
Jack LaLanne Sickly at Age 15
In California, over 80 years ago, Jack LaLanne’s mother dragged her then 15-year-old son to a lecture by health crusading nutritionist Paul C. Bragg. They arrived late and had to sit on the stage close to Bragg in front of some 3,000 people. That night changed Jack LaLanne’s life forever.
“My mother forced me to go,” LaLanne recalls. “I had dropped out of school for almost a year. I was a sick shut-in! I wouldn’t go out and see people. I had pimples and boils and I was wearing glasses. I was thin, wore a back brace and was so weak I couldn’t participate in sports. I didn’t want anyone to see me.”
During the lecture, Jack heard Paul Bragg tell the audience that they could reverse their physical problems by eating right and living a healthy lifestyle. These words struck a needed chord in the young, unhealthy LaLanne. “I was weak and sick. I used to have blinding headaches every day. I couldn’t stand pain. I wanted to get out of my body.”
Jack recalls how life seemed so hopeless, but Dr. Bragg told us that we could be physically born again. After the lecture, LaLanne went to Bragg’s dressing room and talked for an hour with him. “This was the start of a wonderful, lifelong friendship.”
Dr. Bragg Asked Me…..
Jack recalls “Dr. Bragg asked me, ‘What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?’ I told him, “cakes, pies and ice cream?” He said, “Jack, you are a walking garbage can.”
“That night I got down on my knees, by the side of my bed and I prayed. I didn’t say, ‘God, make me a Mr. America.’ Rather I said ‘Please give me the will power and intestinal fortitude to refrain from eating the wrong, lifeless, dead foods when the urge comes over me. God please give me the strength to exercise when I don’t feel like it.’”
At the end of two weeks, he said, he felt “like an entirely different human being.” He went from being the butt of jokes to captain of his high school football team and took up bodybuilding.
Jack’s Life After His Encounter with Paul Bragg
There hasn’t been a donut in Jack’s life since Bragg told him, “The best part of a donut is the hole.” In the 70 years since Jack opened his first gym in downtown Oakland, Jack has spread his gospel of fitness through nutrition and exercise, in lectures, a 34-year television show and a variety of extraordinary physical feats.
Following are some of Jack’s accomplishments: 1,033 push-ups in 23 minutes, and swimming from Alcatraz to San Francisco in freezing ocean water while handcuffed and shackled.
On his 70th birthday, he celebrated with a mile long swim, during which he towed 70 rowboats filled with 70 people. LaLanne pioneered health gyms and has a number of nutritional and exercise products on the market – all of which made him a wealthy man. Many have seen Jack LaLanne demonstrating and promoting his Jack LaLanne juicer.
But Jack LaLanne, the muscle mogul, with the 45-inch chest and the 28-inch waist, says he cares nothing for material rewards. “I never thought about making money in my life. This is a capitalistic country and if you do a good job, you will be compensated.
“In the future I want to open a chain of health food restaurants, write more books and do some more television. I love inspiring people to be healthy, happy, and stronger.”
LaLanne was grateful that fitness and nutrition had become No. 1 in growth, with sales in the billions. He believed the emphasis on exercise and a healthy natural diet would create a stronger, better America. “With healthier citizens, we will unburden society from sickness and reduce the medical bills that are draining people’s savings and causing grief.”
“I talked about the dangers of white flour and sugar over 60 years ago and people thought I was some kind of a fool. Now it’s every doctor saying ‘salt, white flour, sugar are killers, killers, killers’,” he said.
“It’s exciting what’s happening. This is going to be the salvation of America, you watch. The incidences of drugs, alcoholism and crime on our streets will decrease in the next few years. Young people turn to drugs because they are eating too much sugar and refined, dead foods, and the lack of exercise.
“How do you think kids get started on this deadly drug habit? It all starts with excessive consumption of white sugar, candy and soft drinks. When you use too much sugar it destroys the B-complex vitamins so that you can’t make wise decisions, your energy’s down and you’re apprehensive and doubtful about your life.
“These are the hard facts. If you stop eating white sugar products and get on live, organic, natural foods, you will feel better immediately. Look at me, if Dr. Bragg hadn’t changed my life at age 15, I would have been dead at age 17.”
LaLanne’s personal health regimen included health foods, abundant use of fresh vegetable juices, plus vitamin and mineral supplements and a big two-and-one-half-hour workout each day. He would start exercising at 5:00 a.m. because it’s a challenge and it’s tougher that way.
“Getting out of a warm bed at 5:00 a.m. to go down to my gym in the morning . . . I could be lazy and sleep late! But when I’m through with my two-and-one-half hours of morning exercise I think, ‘Jack, congratulations – you did it again!’ And I still have the willpower to do that – everything else is easy by comparison.”
Jack LaLanne was the father of two and happily married to Elaine. Right up until the end of his life he still had “enthusiasm and super energy for helping the world to be healthy, happy, and at peace.”
Jack LaLanne’s Earthly Life Ended on January 23, 2011
The USA TODAY article gave us a glimpse of his passing with these words:
“He had a fine singing voice and would often burst into song around Elaine, his wife of 51 years, singing an old standard from World War 1. On Sunday, it was Elaine who sang to him: ‘If I were the only girl in the world and you were the only boy. Nothing else would matter in the world today. We could go on loving in the same old way.’”
“I sang it to him,” Elaine told USA TODAY on Monday, “and he smiled, and it wasn’t that much longer before he passed away.” LaLanne died at his home in Morro Bay, California, with his family around him.”
EDITOR’S CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
As I said at the start of this article, Jack LaLanne is one of my Health Heroes, and one I have tried to emulate in my life these past 35 years. It is my hope that after reading Jack’s testimony above, you will make him your Health Hero as well, and that you will desire to emulate his diet and lifestyle as I have. Share this article with your children!
For the first 15 years of his life, Jack ate the world’s diet, and you have read the consequences he suffered as a result. But at age 15, when challenged by Dr. Bragg to change his diet and start exercising, he took up the challenge and almost immediately started to see his sickly and weak young body become healthy and strong.
What Jack LaLanne has been preaching for over 70 years is what this editor has been preaching for the past 35 years. It is also what Hallelujah Acres is all about. The only difference is that I add Jesus to the equation. By adding Jesus, you not only have the best in this world, but a guaranteed bright and healthy future in heaven.
If you my friend are not on The Hallelujah Diet, if you would but stop putting the world’s SAD diet into your body and start eating only those foods that are healthy, and start exercising, then you too can most likely experience the miracle in your body that both Jack LaLanne and this editor have experienced.
Thirty-five years ago, at age 42, this editor had a weak and sickly body in decline and failing him. After I was told “it’s colon cancer,” it was Lester Roloff who told me it was my rotten diet that had caused the problem. He then went on to encourage me to stop eating the foods that had caused my problem, start eating healthy foods, and begin exercising.
I, like Jack LaLanne, listened to these words of wisdom, changed my diet and started exercising. Within weeks my body started to respond as the rectal bleeding stopped and within a year my cancer was gone. That was 35 years ago in January 2011.
Today, at age 77, I am not only free of cancer, but have a muscular body with rock-hard abs, a 41-inch chest, and 31/32-inch waist, and can do almost anything physically I could do as a teenager. My body is strong, my endurance is great, and I thank God for Evangelist Lester Roloff introducing me to a healthy diet and lifestyle 35 years ago.
(Today, my chest and waist measurements do not quite measure up to Jack LaLanne’s 48-inch chest and 28-inch waist, but I’m a work in progress, working on improving these measurements most every day. Jack had almost a 30-year head start, he started at age 15 to improve his health and I didn’t get started until age 42 but I’m sure glad I got started when I did, because if I hadn’t, only God knows where I would be.)
May Jack LaLanne be an inspiration to you to change your diet and start exercising! And please don’t say that you are too old or sickly to begin. No matter how old or sickly you are, in most instances a change in diet and lifestyle can start you on a road that can change your life, or possibly even save it.

Special Training March 7-8 With Rev. Malkmus
Feb 14th
Monday and Tuesday, March 7-8, is your opportunity to spend two memorable days with the Founder of Hallelujah Acres – the man God has used to bring health and healing to multitudes of Christians across America and around the world for the past 20 years.
During this 2-Day Workshop, using Rev. Malkmus’ most recent books, “The Hallelujah Diet”, and “The Hallelujah Diet Workbook”, you will learn how the Bible supports a pure plant-based diet to build and support a healthy, slim, energized body.
He will also reveal why the Standard American Diet (consisting of animal flesh and dairy, along with refined sugar and refined flour) consumed by most Christians today cannot help but produce physical breakdown and mental decline. It is the primary cause for most of the prayer requests for sickness in our churches each week.
Using scientific documentation, Biblical teachings and scriptures, as well as personal experiences and the testimonies of multitudes of others, Rev. Malkmus will also show how you too, can experience the degree of health he is personally experiencing at age 77.
You won’t soon forget seeing his energy and physical abilities as he not only teaches the importance of physical exercise, but demonstrates it in person. If there is a human example of “The energizer bunny,” many believe that Rev. Malkmus is it.
Cost is $125 per person and includes the two books, plus carrot juice, unlimited BarleyMax and Tuesday lunch. Get more information online or call 1-800-915-9355.

Poll Reveals Spectacular Results
Feb 12th

Have you answered our poll? Recently, we have been conducting a poll on the Health Tip asking this question: SINCE ADOPTING THE HALLELUJAH DIET, I HAVE…
- Lost Weight – 67% (235 votes)
- Increased Energy – 67% (233 votes)
- Never Felt Better – 54% (188 votes)
- Decreased Pain – 32% (111 votes)
- Lowered Blood Pressure – 26% (89 votes)
- Controlled Diabetes – 11% (39 votes)
- Beat Cancer – 9% (32 votes)
These are the poll results from the 349 people who have thus far responded to the poll. Since the number of votes adds up to more than 349, that means some of the respondents experienced more than one improvement in their health as a result of adopting The Hallelujah Diet.
It would be interesting, if others who promote a particular diet would offer the same poll to their fans: Atkins; South Beach; Mediterranean; Mercola; Maker’s; Macrobiotic; Zone; Blood Type; Jenny Craig, etc. Offering such a poll would quickly reveal which plan provides the greatest benefits for a variety of health issues.
At a later time I would like to repeat this poll by adding additional physical problems people have seen improve after adopting The Hallelujah Diet. For instance, hundreds have written to report that their arthritis simply disappeared after making the diet change, headaches gone, eyesight improved, etc.
(If you are on The Hallelujah Diet and have not as yet responded to these poll questions, it is not too late to do so!)
