Christmas: The Sweetest Time Of The Year

Christmas is probably the sweetest time of the year! It is especially sweet because it is the time we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
It is also sweet because it is a time when families get together and most people are in a “sweet mood.”
Sadly, it is also a “sweet time” because of the many sweets people love to eat and drink at this time of the year and this can take the “sweet” out of the celebration.
Most likely, you know that God has given each of us an immune system to protect us against germs, viruses, and bacteria.
But did you know that the wrong kind of sweets, and even too many of the good sweets, have the ability to weaken the immune system and make the body a breeding and feeding ground for germs, viruses, and bacteria?
Neutrophils are a special type of white blood cell found in the immune system. They were given us by God to engulf and destroy cold viruses and other invaders before they could perform their dastardly deed of making us sick.
When a person consumes too many sweets, of whatever variety, these neutropils become lethargic, rendering them unable to perform their protective duties.
Sweet Sources
- Sucrose is the name of the table sugar found in most dessert recipes.
- Sucrose is made up of two sugars, glucose and fructose.
- Fructose is a naturally occurring sugar found primarily in fruits.
- All fruits contain sugar, in the form of fructose, glucose and sucrose.
- Honey is about 53% fructose.
- Agave nectar contains about 80% fructose.
- Sucralose, aspartame, and saccharin are not sugars at all, but rather dangerous, artificial, chemical sweeteners.
Sucrose
Sucrose is commonly known as table sugar. It is a white, odorless, crystalline powder with a sweet taste. Sucrose, the scientific term for table sugar, contains equal parts of fructose and glucose, making it a disaccharide: a carbohydrate made of two sugars.
When you eat a piece of fruit, your body metabolizes the sugar, along with the proteins, vitamins and minerals needed to break down the sucrose.
Eating refined table sugar, which lacks those proteins, vitamins and minerals, leads to an imbalance of your body’s chemistry, causing weight gain, impaired thinking, tooth decay, and more.
High Fructose Corn Syrup
High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is made up of fructose, the sugar found in fruit, and glucose, which comes from corn. When HFCS is made, the two sugars are combined, usually with more fructose.
In fruit, fructose is not as dangerous, because the fiber in fruit slows down the absorption of the sugars.
However, when HFCS is added to drinks and processed foods, it has the potential to cause real damage to the body because it goes straight to the liver, bypassing the pancreas, which normally processes sugar. The HFCS is then turned into fat and stored in the body.
The Dangers of Fructose
Fructose is metabolized the same way as alcohol and creates toxins within the body. These toxins gradually eat away the liver and can eventually cause cirrhosis of the liver. Fructose contributes to high triglycerides and low HDL, which translates into heart attacks and strokes. A diet high in fructose causes fat build up, leading to insulin resistance, obesity, hypertension, and gout.
What About The Fructose In Fruit?
Fruits in their whole raw form contain buffers such as fiber, vitamins, minerals, live enzymes, and phytochemicals that allow for slow assimilation of the sugar, rather than a rush of it into the blood and liver when the buffers are not present. When these buffers are removed as they are in fruit juices, they can become problematic.
Sugar Alternatives
- Stevia is an herb that has no known damaging effects.
- Medjool dates are a natural sweetener containing both fructose and glucose.
- Organic honey, organic maple syrup and organic agave nectar are natural sugars that contain fructose and glucose and should be used sparingly.
Minimize Sweets
Minimize all sources of sugars. Even raw fruit should be kept below 15% of daily food intake by volume. Avoid fruit juices as much as possible as they concentrate the sugars. When preparing Christmas desserts, use safe sugar alternatives and limit desserts to one serving. These sweet desserts should be reserved for special occasions and not for daily consumption.

The World’s Diet Is Dangerously High In Cooked Food

For the past seven weeks, we have been sharing the reasons why the ‘World’s Diet’ is such a dangerous diet.
In this Health Tip we are going to examine another danger found in the World’s Diet, a danger so subtle most would never consider it suspect: cooked food.
The Sun – Both A Sustainer & Destroyer of Life
“The Dangers of Cooked Food” begin in Genesis chapter 1. From this chapter I want to glean a few nuggets that will help lay the groundwork for what will follow.
On the third day of creation, in Genesis 1:9-10, we read how God created the earth. In the following verses, verses 11-13, we read how God created the fruits and vegetables, seeds and nuts, the very foods God designed our physical bodies to be nourished with and to thrive upon:
“AND GOD SAID, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb [vegetable] yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb [vegetable] yielding seed after his kind; and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.”
Without a source of light and heat, plant life could not be sustained. So, the very next day, on Day 4, God creates the sun and the moon to provide light and heat to sustain the plant life He had created the day before:
AND GOD SAID, Let there be light in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so, And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:14-17)
Have You Ever Thought About This?
If the earth was in an orbit that was only slightly closer to the sun, or if the earth’s circumference was only slightly greater, the earth would not be able to sustain LIFE. Why? Because the heat from the sun would destroy all plant, animal, and human forms of life.
Conversely, if the earth was in an orbit only slightly further from the sun, or if the earth’s circumference was only slightly less, the earth would not be able to sustain the plant, animal, and human life God had created. Why? Because everything would freeze to death!
Let’s look at a few other verses revealing the awesome wisdom of our God:
“ . . . All things were created by Him, and for Him: and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.”
Colossians 1:16-17“Nevertheless He left not Himself without witness, in that He did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and the fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”
Acts 14:17
Could All This Have Happened By Chance?
How anyone could believe that all this precision happened just by chance, as those who teach and believe in evolution proclaim, is beyond my comprehension.
No my friend, it was God who hung the earth in just the exact place in the universe so that the earth could support plant, animal, and yes human LIFE!
No other planet or star has this precise placement in the universe!
Sadly, man has wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on space exploration in an effort to find life on other planets, but without success. Nor will man ever find life on another planet, because the Bible tells us in Genesis 3:20 that Eve is “the mother of all living.”
How High Temperatures Affect Life
Have you ever considered the affect high temperatures have upon the human physical body?
For instance, if a person has a fever of 104 degrees Fahrenheit, do we not become concerned? Of course we do! But what if the temperature goes up to 106 degrees? Do we not at that temperature become extremely concerned? Why?
Because when the internal temperature of the human physical body reaches 107 degrees, brain cells begin to scramble and die, and by the time the internal temperature reaches 108 degrees, the person is usually dead.
High temperatures have a very devastating effect on the very life of the human physical body!
How High Temperatures Affect Our Food
High temperatures also affect the life of the foods we eat.
For instance, at approximately 107 degrees Fahrenheit, the enzymes — which are the life force found in raw fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts — begin to break down, and by 122 degrees that food has become a dead food, devoid of ALL life forms.
Yet, before most of the foods we eat today are consumed, they are heated to high temperatures. For instance, the temperature of boiling water is 212 degrees Fahrenheit; the temperature of steam is also 212 degrees; while the temperature of a slow oven begins at about 225 or 250 degrees.
All packaged, canned, or bottled foods found on the grocery store shelf have been exposed to high heat to destroy the enzymes (life force) so that the food will not spoil.
Pasteurized milk is heated to 160 degrees, while all bottled fruit and vegetable juices receive similar heating. Even frozen vegetables have been blanched in very hot water to destroy any form of life.
Living Bodies Need Living Foods
The physical body we each possess is a living organism, comprised of living cells, designed by God to be nourished with living food. All cooked food is dead food and therefore incapable of properly nourishing living cells.
When we look to nature, every animal in the wild – carnivorous or vegetarian – eats its food raw (in an uncooked form) just as God designed and they thrive. Only man takes living food (which God provides in its raw state in nature) and cooks it. Doing so destroys its life force, and thus its ability to properly nourish the living, human body.
All the foods Adam and Eve consumed in the Garden of Eden were in their raw, uncooked, living form.
How Heat Destroys Life: A Home Experiment
It is not difficult to prove that high heat destroys the life forms found in raw fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts. Here is a little experiment you can perform in your own home:
- Go to the store and purchase five raw carrots.
- At home, cut off about ½ an inch below the stem end, place it in a shallow basin of water, and watch it grow. (And, yes it will grow because its life force has not been destroyed by high heat.)
- Next take the remaining four raw carrots and cook each one by a different means: boil one, steam one, bake one, and microwave one.
- Take each cooked carrot out of its heat source; cut off ½ inch from the stem end of each; place them in a shallow basin of water and watch them grow(?).
Will they grow? Of course not! Why not?
Because the high temperatures of cooking them have destroyed all enzymes or life force.
Dr. Pottenger’s Research
One of the best known studies regarding the effects of high heat upon foods was a 10-year research project conducted by Dr. Francis M. Pottenger, Jr. His study was published in 1945 in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Oral Surgery.
Dr. Pottenger took 900 cats and fed all the same foods for nine years, the only difference being that he divided the cats into two groups. One group was given their food in its raw and uncooked form, while the other group received cooked form.
The results dramatically revealed the damaging effect cooking has upon food.
The cats that were fed their food raw, in its living form, produced healthy kittens year after year, with no ill health, birthing defects, or premature deaths.
While the cats fed the same food only cooked, developed heart disease, cancer, kidney and thyroid disease, pneumonia, paralysis, loss of teeth, arthritis, birthing difficulties, diminished sexual interest, diarrhea, irritability, liver problems, osteoporosis, and more (the same diseases common in our present day human cooked food culture).
Also, the first generation of kittens fed cooked food was sick and abnormal, the second generation was often born diseased or dead, and by the third generation, the mothers were sterile.
Humans Are Now Experiencing Dr. Pottenger’s Cat Experiment
Sadly, many of the results Dr. Pottenger observed in his cat experiments are being experienced today in our human population.
For instance, with each succeeding generation of cats fed exclusively cooked food, fewer and fewer were able to produce offspring. The Standard American Diet consumed today consists of almost totally cooked foods. Could this be the reason some 40% of young adults cannot conceive?
When I was a child back in the 1930s the only people I remember having arthritis were the elderly who often needed a cane or walking stick to assist them in walking. Today, arthritis is not just an affliction of the elderly, but an ever increasing number of children are being diagnosed with juvenile arthritis.
Diabetes used to be a disease of the elderly and unheard of in children, but today juvenile diabetes is epidemic. When I was a child, cancer was something that only the elderly experienced, but today, after accidents, cancer is the number one cause of death among the youth of our country.
What Is Going On?
Why are our young people experiencing serious degenerative diseases at an ever-earlier age?
And why are an ever increasing number of our young adults unable to produce offspring?
Might the cooking of almost all the foods being consumed today be a major part of the problem?
For a moment, let’s go back to Dr. Pottenger’s experiment with the cats and see what we can learn: The longer the cats were fed a completely cooked food diet, the sooner they experienced physical breakdown.
The Standard American Diet (SAD) being consumed today is predominantly a cooked food diet, and thus lacking the necessary life force and living building materials necessary to produce and maintain vibrant, human life.
This editor contends that one of the primary reasons for human physical breakdown in all ages is the same reason the cats experienced these breakdowns in Dr. Pottenger’s cat experiment – a diet comprised almost totally of cooked food.
Today, the average person in America, as well as those in most countries around the world, is consuming a primarily dead food diet.
The Standard American Diet, loaded with all kinds of chemical additives, fails to provide the physical body with the building materials necessary to sustain a vibrantly alive and healthy physical body.
God Had It Right
God Himself gave Adam and Eve the ideal human diet in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1:29). Were it not for sin, that diet was intended to properly nourish Adam’s and Eve’s physical bodies and keep them thriving forever. “. . . . lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever.” (Genesis 3:22)
Although it is no longer possible to live forever in these physical bodies we possess, we can extend our life on earth in a healthy manner by taking advantage of God’s instructions in Genesis 1:29 — eating a primarily raw, living foods, 100%-plant based diet.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:1-2
Conclusion
I was raised on (and lived the first 42 years of my life on) an almost 100% cooked food diet.
As a result, I suffered all manner of physical breakdown and was told I had colon cancer at age 42.
Cancer was my wake-up call. It caused me to seek an alternative to the traditional cancer treatments that had killed my mom.
In my search for an alternative means of overcoming my cancer, I turned to Evangelist Lester Roloff who encouraged me to consume exclusively the raw plant foods found in God’s Genesis 1:29 diet and to drink a lot of raw, unprocessed carrot juice. That change in diet from a dead food diet to a living foods diet saved my life and totally changed my life.
For the past 36 years, on a predominantly living foods, raw, plant-based diet, my body has thrived. I haven’t had a cold or the flu since making the diet change and now, just two years shy of my 80th birthday, I am only five years from outliving the most senior person in my known ancestral line.
NOTE: When I first made the diet change, I went 100% raw for the first year, but personal experience and the testimonies from hundreds of others who had a problem with 100% raw has caused me to now discourage a 100% raw plant source diet. My diet today, and for the past 35 years, has consisted of approximately 85% raw plant sourced foods and about 15% cooked plant sourced foods. I have learned that, though that original Genesis 1:29 diet was 100% raw, for many reasons most people can stick to a plant-based diet easier when they cook 15% of the food.

The World’s Diet Is Dangerously High In Bad Fats

For the past six weeks, we have been sharing the reasons why the ‘World’s Diet’ is such a dangerous diet.
In this Health Tip we are going to examine another substance that contains no fiber and has potentially serious health damaging consequences, yet is consumed by almost every man, woman and child each and every day of their lives if they consume the World’s SAD Diet.
Did You Know?
Fats, in one form or another, are found in almost everything we eat.
Fats are in almost every fruit and vegetable grown in the garden, in high amounts in avocados, seeds and nuts, and exceedingly high in most sea and land animals?
Before doing some research, I would never have dreamed that the half a banana I put in my green smoothie each morning contains a quarter gram of fat. In fact, every 8 oz glass of carrot juice I drink has nearly a gram of fat. And just a quarter of an avocado I put in my blended salad each evening contains approximately 7 grams of fat.
As we begin this journey into understanding fats, we need to be aware of how different types of fat can affect our health.
For instance, there are the bad fats that have the potential of doing great harm to our body; these should be avoided. But there are good fats that are essential for keeping us alive and for the proper nourishment and functioning of the body.
Bad Fats Can Kill
Bad fats are the primary cause of approximately half of all deaths in America.
Remove these bad fats from the diet and you could almost eliminate any fear of ever having a heart attack or stroke, or the need for medications to control high blood pressure, or the need for stents or by-passes. These bad fats clog up the arteries and cut off blood flow.
Bad fats are found in all animal flesh and dairy foods. Just 3.5 ounces of extra lean hamburger contains 16 grams of bad fat; 3.5 ounces of dark chicken meat contains 15.8 grams of bad fat; or that a 3.5 ounce serving of pork roast contains 21.5 grams of bad fat.
Pasteurized cow milk derives 50% of its calories from bad fat.
Dr. William C. Roberts, editor of the “American Journal of Cardiology” writes:
“Human beings are not natural carnivores. When we kill animals to eat them, they end up killing us because their flesh, which contains cholesterol and saturated fat, was never intended for human beings, who are natural herbivores.”
Animal source fats are good fats when consumed in their raw state by carnivorous animals, or their raw milk by the offspring of animals.
But when these same flesh and dairy fats are cooked and pasteurized and consumed by herbivores (we humans) they become bad fats that clog up our arteries and do great harm to the body.
By the way, when these animal fats are cooked and consumed by carnivorous animals, they become bad fats for the animals that consume them, even to the extent of causing their death.
Any fat in flesh or dairy becomes a dangerous bad fat when exposed to air, light, and heat.
Good Fats Can Heal
The body needs good fats and without them life on earth cannot be sustained.
Good fats are found in plant source foods, the very foods God so clearly told us in the Bible we should nourish our bodies with in Genesis 1:29. But they must be consumed in their raw, unprocessed form.
It is also possible to utilize some fish oils when properly processed.
However, while fats as found in living plants and some fish are good fats, when these fats are processed with heat, or exposed to the air and light, they become bad fats.
Why Good Fats Are Essential
- The body can’t make them.
- They are required for normal cell, tissue, gland and organ function.
- Deficiency results in progressive deterioration.
- Their absence from the body will eventually cause death.
- Adding essential fatty acids to a deficient diet reverses the symptoms of deficiency and restores health.
Following are just a few reasons why the body needs good fats:
- Energy production
- Proper brain function
- Weight management
- Healthy digestion
- Inflammation prevention
- Stress prevention
- Improved sleep
- Improved hormone function
- Proper reproductive function
- Cancer risk reduction
- Proper insulin function
- Improved gut integrity
- Improved skin, hair, and nail quality and growth
- Improved vision
Three Types of Essential Fatty Acids
There are two kinds of essential fats: omega-3 and omega-6. The body can’t make them, absolutely requires them, and must obtain them from food.
Lack of either results in physical deterioration.
Both omega-3 and omega-6 are polyunsaturated fats. All other fats, including monounsaturated and saturated, can be made by the body.
Omega 3 Fatty acids are an essential polyunsaturated fat found in fish, nuts, and plant oils. There are three types of omega-3 fatty acids
- ALA or alpha-linolenic acid – available from flaxseed, walnuts, canola, and soybeans.
- EPA or eicosapentaenoic acid – available from human breast milk and fish oils. Can usually be converted by the body from ALA, but sometimes poorly.
- DHA or docosahexaenoic acid – available from human breast milk and fish oils and algae. Can be converted by the body from ALA, but often poorly.
Omega 3 fatty acids correct imbalances created by unhealthy diets by lowering risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
ALA helps reduce heart disease and stroke by reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
DHA & EPA help with brain and eye development, prevent cardiovascular disease, and can help prevent Alzheimer’s.
Omega 6 fatty acids are also polyunsaturated fats essential for human health and can be found in most animal source foods, nuts, and plant based oils. There are two types of omega-6 fatty acids:
- LA or linoleic acid is an unsaturated omega-6 fatty acid available from plants, seeds, and nuts.
- AA or arachidonic acid is available from nuts, meat, eggs, and dairy.
Most omega-6 fatty acids are obtained from animal sources and vegetable oils. However, excessive amounts, especially from animal sources, can contribute to inflammation, narrowing of the arteries, and result in heart disease, cancer, asthma, arthritis and depression.
A proper balance of 1:1 or 1: 2 between omega-3’s and 6’s in the diet promotes health, while an excess of Omega-6’s promotes inflammation and contributes to the development of disease.
The Standard American Diet (SAD) typically contains 10 to 30 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids, contributing to the increasing rates of inflammatory disorders so prevalent today.
Omega-9 Fatty Acids are known as oleic acids or monounsaturated fats. They are unsaturated fats found primarily in vegetable oils and almonds. Unlike omega-3 and 6’s, omega 9 fatty acids are produced by the body, but can also be beneficial when obtained from foods.
Although omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids all serve different functions within the body, incorporating balanced proportions of both essential and non-essential fatty acids are necessary for maintaining overall heart health and the general wellbeing of the body.
Processing Of Fats
Processing damages poly- and mono-unsaturated fats and further damages already-damaged trans-fats.
Because of their sensitivity to damage by light, air and heat, oils for health and performance should be made under protection, pressed from organically-grown seeds to avoid toxic pesticide residues, and bottled in brown glass and boxed for protection against light.
Most of the health problems blamed on fats should be blamed on the destructive processing of fats used to obtain longer shelf life and when these fats are used in cooking.
Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s, Omega 3’s, 6’s, and 9’s) are extremely sensitive to destruction by light, air (oxygen), and heat. These destructive influences produce molecules that change natural and healthy fats to unnatural and toxic fats.
In past years, lard and coconut oils were condemned for being saturated fats and were replaced with vegetable oils called polyunsaturated.
These processed polyunsaturated fats were touted as being heart healthy, and the gullible American public bought into the propaganda and still does to this day.
The Bible says “My people are being destroyed for lack of knowledge”. And how true this statement is today with regard to fats.
But what the people did not and do not understand is the effect processing has on these oils. Processing turns good fats into refined fats, hydrogenated fats, and trans fats.
Trans fatty acids are formed when vegetable oils are hydrogenated (had hydrogen pumped into them), and hardened to make margarine and shortenings.
Trans fatty acids are now recognized as a leading cause of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other chronic or fatal illnesses. Any processed food that contains hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil contains trans fats: French fries, fried chicken, donuts, cookies and pastries typically contain between 30 and 50% trans fats.
These fats, when exposed to light, produce thousands of free radicals, and lead to changes in oil molecules. Exposing these fats to air (oxygen) produces oxidation and rancidity. Heat speeds up the damage done by light and oxygen, and at high temperatures, does its own unique kind of damage.
Destructive Fats
Canola oil, corn oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, and sunflower oils are advertised as being heart healthy, yet they too are processed with heat, exposed to light and air, and usually sold in clear glass or plastic containers.
Every one of them should carry a label that reads “WARNING: this product may be harmful to your health.”
All of the above oils, even if they are organic, cold-pressed, unprocessed, and stored away from heat and light and in clear glass or plastic, are potentially damaging to the body. They have very little shelf life and go rancid in days if not refrigerated.
And if not pressed from organic seed, GMO becomes a huge issue also.
Healthy Fats
Extra virgin olive oil is one of the safest of the oils. However when buying olive oil there are certain things to look for: Make sure the label reads “Extra Virgin.”
Extra virgin means the oil came from the cold pressing of the flesh of the olive. If the label just says “olive oil” it means the oil came from the heat processing of the seed.
Extra virgin olive oil should be packaged in dark glass, and never used for the frying of foods, but only in its cold form in salad dressings, etc.
Cold pressed “Udo’s” brand oils and flax oils are other safe oils if processed properly. They are bottled in dark containers, and refrigerated. Again, these oils should only be used for low temperature food prep (nothing above 107F).
Fish Oil is a safe oil if properly processed and comes from non-mercury sources. Beware of fish oils in capsule form as they are often rancid. It is important fish oils come in a dark glass container and once opened kept refrigerated.
We have found Pharmax Fish Oil to be the very best and purest of all the fish oils available today.
Organic virgin coconut oil is probably the safest and best oil available, and is the only oil recommended for frying and cooking purposes. It has a sweet coconut scent and flavor, and though a saturated fat, is heart healthy (due to medium chain fatty acids or MCFA). It is health promoting and does not require refrigeration.
When shopping for coconut oil, look for “virgin” or “extra virgin” but not just “coconut oil” or “refined” coconut oil (these last two have been heated in processing).
Incidentally, “extra” virgin coconut oil is no different than “virgin” coconut oil. The coconut oil industry does not have the same wording standards as the olive oil industry, which indeed has different standards for the use of the terms virgin and extra virgin.
In Conclusion
For those who might be interested, here are the fats I consume on a daily basis:
- A quarter cup of ground flax seed and 1 teaspoon Pharmax Fish Oil go into my green smoothie each morning.
- I consume at least a half an avocado each day.
- Some seeds and nuts are consumed but in limited amounts.
- Some extra virgin olive oil in salad dressings and added to foods after cooking.
- Virgin coconut oil is the only oil used in healthy stir fries and for other cooking purposes.
In addition to the above, most all the fruits and veggies I consume contain varying amounts of good fat. I consume no foods containing refined fats, hydrogenated fats, or trans fatty acids – that means no conventionally fried ANYTHING (donuts, French fries, onion rings, fried chicken) or margarine for that matter.
I have not knowingly consumed any bad fats in the past 36 years.
Although I have been on this 85% raw to 15% cooked, plant-based diet for 36 years, and am only two years from my 80th birthday, I am very healthy!
Other than the smile-induced wrinkles on my face, my nails and hair are strong and shiny, my scalp is not dry nor do I have and dandruff, and the skin on the rest of my body is smooth, soft and without blemish, with zero liver spots on my hands.
The Bible says “My people are destroyed for lack of KNOWLEDGE.” (Hosea 4:6) And when it comes to what kinds of fats we should and should not allow into our bodies there is for sure a great “lack of knowledge” in the land.

After all, God has given us the responsibility of maintaining our bodies so that we can be fit for the Master’s use.

The World’s Diet – Dangerously High In Table Salt

For the past five weeks, we have been sharing the reasons why the ‘World’s Diet’ is such a dangerous diet.
In this Health Tip we are going to examine a substance that contains no fiber and is extremely toxic to the body, yet is consumed by almost every man, woman and child each and every day on The Standard American Diet: table salt.
Controversy and Confusion
Did you know that the Bible talks about salt? In Matthew 5:13 the reference to salt comes directly from the lips of Jesus as He addresses His disciples in the Sermon on the Mount:
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”
Biblically, the believers in Jesus Christ is referred to as the “salt of the earth” because they are the preserving force on earth withholding God’s judgment upon this earth and the people that inhabit it.
Salt has also been used in the human diet for thousands of years as a preservative as well as for the seasoning of foods.
Up until recently, we have been led to believe that all salt is a deadly poison and that there was no place for it in our diet.
These beliefs were once my beliefs and possibly yours, but these beliefs have been challenged in recent years and need to be revisited for our health’s sake.
Table Salt
Table salt is a refined, processed, and bleached salt, consisting of 100% sodium chloride, with toxic substances added.
When sodium chloride is consumed in this manner, it becomes a very addictive and toxic substance that does great harm to the body. Yet, the compound is essential for cellular health and the proper functioning of the body.
How do we explain this paradox?
In this health tip we will attempt to show why one form of salt, table salt, is a toxic and dangerous substance when placed into the body, while several other forms of salt, as found naturally occurring in nature, are essential to the health.
Refined salts, as found on grocery store shelves, on restaurant tables, and in most manufactured and restaurant foods, is a toxic and dangerous substance that needs to be avoided as much as possible.
Here’s why.
The refining process removes 82 of the 84 naturally occurring minerals, while having chemicals added to prevent it from absorbing moisture. This enables it to flow freely from the salt shaker. It is then bleached similar to the process used to whiten refined sugar and flour.
Dr. Esterban Genao, a Florida pediatrician stated in an interview, “I am convinced that the refining of salt, the refining of sugar, and of oils, is going to be shown to be responsible for a great majority of our physical problems.”
What’s Wrong With Table Salt
(1) Mineral Depletion
Table salt leads to a poorly functioning immune system along with the initiation and acceleration of chronic illness. It depletes calcium, potassium, and magnesium and is directly related to cardiovascular disease. The ingestion of large amounts leads to mineral deficiency.
(2) Acid Formation
Due to its lack of buffering minerals, it becomes an acidifying substance within the body, and joins the other acidifying substances found in the “World’s Diet.” All animal products (both flesh and dairy), all refined sugars, and refined flour are acidifying, making it difficult for the body to maintain its alkalinity.
(3) Fluid Imbalance
Table salt is toxic to the body and responsible for upsetting the fluid balance, debilitating the circulatory system, and aggravating a number of salt pathologies.
One ounce of ingested table salt will cause the body to retain 3 quarts of water (6 pounds of excess bodily fluids), in an attempt to dilute this extremely toxic substance.
A seriously overweight person once told me they lost 22 pounds their first week on The Hallelujah Diet. How? The body was releasing the water it was retaining to keep that toxic sodium and chloride in suspension.
(4) High Sodium Intake
The average person consuming the Standard American Diet (SAD), consumes anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 mg of sodium daily. Sources for table salt would include:
- diet soda – 550 mg
- 6 oz serving bottled vegetable juice – 555 mg
- 2 slices of bread – 1090 mg
- 1.5 oz natural cheese – 593 mg
- 1 tbsp salad dressing – 333 mg
- 10 oz canned soup – 1547 mg
- hamburger – 800 mg
- scramble egg and sausage – 1411 mg
- quarter pound cheese burger – 1950 mg
- 4 oz frozen fish – 1080 mg
- 2 oz ham – 1578 mg
- 1 oz potato chips – 300 mg
- Mexican style frozen dinner – 2,300 mg
- ¼ frozen pizza – 1389mg
(5) Addiction
Table salt is highly addictive and disease promoting. Even with all the table salt contained in manufactured foods, many people will add more salt to their food from a salt shaker.
Often, when people first adopt The Hallelujah Diet they consider the food tasteless. That is because their taste buds have been dulled by their previous use of table salt. Fortunately, on a basically living foods, plant-based diet, the cells of the taste buds will rebuild in about 2 weeks, and the plant-source foods will start to taste wonderful.
(6) Disease
Table salt either causes or aggravates a host of salt sicknesses – including but not limited to: edema, obesity, hypertension, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, stroke, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, PMS, manic-depression, and the list goes on.
(7) High Blood Pressure
Table salt is a contributing cause of high blood pressure. Many people could be off blood pressure medicine, and experiencing normal blood pressure, if they would simply eliminate table salt from their diet.
The Importance of Essential Minerals
Though we have severely condemned table salt, it cannot be emphasized strongly enough that the body needs salt (sodium and chloride) to function properly and both can be found naturally occurring in the living plants God placed in garden.
Yes, the very foods God told us we should eat for the proper nourishment of our body in Genesis 1:29 contain both sodium and chloride, and these garden foods should be the primary source of these essential minerals.
Sodium Chloride
Salt (sodium chloride) is an absolute necessity for optimum health. Sodium chloride is responsible for maintaining fluid balance, regulating the circulatory system, and normalizing nerve impulses.
Sodium/Potassium Pump
Every cell within the body has both an extracellular fluid and an intracellular fluid within the cell membrane acting as a sodium/potassium pump to transport ions back and forth across the membrane into and out of the cell.
The extracellular fluids have higher concentrations of sodium chloride and bicarbonate ions. Intracellular fluids have higher concentrations of potassium, phosphate, and magnesium ions.
Maintaining proper mineral balances and proper fluid volumes is vital to optimal functioning of each cell. (“Human Anatomy and Physiology”, 5th edition, John W. Hole Jr., page 796).
The Nervous System
The human body operates on electrical impulses by way of the nervous system. These impulses are controlled by sodium ions. When sodium levels are out of balance, abnormal electrical signals may occur. Dr. Brownstein tells us that “Without an optimal balance of the various vital minerals, it is impossible for the brain to function optimally.”
The Adrenal Glands
The adrenal glands monitor energy levels, blood sugar, blood pressure, muscle strength, and more. By secretion of other hormones the adrenals keep these functions in check.
A diet deficient in salt or a diet deficient in other minerals can lead to suboptimal adrenal function and eventual adrenal exhaustion. Some possible consequences of adrenal exhaustion would include: fatigue, impaired immune system, thyroid disorders, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, autoimmune disorders etc.
What’s The Difference?
Sodium and chloride as found in plant foods differ greatly from the sodium and chloride found in table salt in the following ways:
(1) Sodium chloride, as found in the living plant, is an unrefined and non-toxic (organic) form.
(2) Sodium chloride is found naturally occurring in fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts, and has received no processing.
(3) Sodium chloride is totally usable by the body and is in an easily assimilable form when derived from living plants.
(4) The body needs only about 250 mg of sodium each and every day in order to carry out necessary functions.
(5) Chloride controls diffusion and the exchange of new and worn-out material in the cells.
(6) Organic sodium occurs naturally, and in adequate amounts in the LIVING plants and vegetable juices of The Hallelujah Diet. Following is the amount of sodium found in a 3 1/2 ounce serving of:
- beets – 60 mg
- celery – 125 mg
- figs (dried) – 35 mg
- kale – 75 mg
- sesame seeds – 60 mg
- sunflower seeds – 30 mg
- red peppers – 10 mg
- radishes – 18 mg
- raisins – 27 mg
- spinach – 70 mg
(7) Plant-source (organic) sodium chloride contributes to our health.
Unrefined Sea Salt
The most natural source of sodium after plant sourced sodium is unrefined sea salt, which boasts over 80 minerals and other elements that are useful to the body and that are missing in refined table salt.
Celtic Sea Salt, which is one of the unrefined sea salts recommended by Hallelujah Acres, is harvested in Brittany, near the Celtic Sea, in the northwestern part of France. Here the sea water is evaporated and the resulting grayish color salt is hand raked. The method used follows a 2,000-year-old Celtic tradition.
The sodium chloride content of natural unrefined sun dried Celtic Sea Salt is as low as 84% in the Light Gray variety (compared to 100% in refined earth and sea salts), water about 14%, and the remaining 2% is a vast array of approximately 80 naturally occurring trace minerals.

We believe either of these to be a good option for those who desire to conservatively use some salt on their foods and in their food preparation. These salts will not only improve the flavor of the food but also offer some benefits to the body at cellular level.
If we want to have a healthy, properly running physical body, it needs salt, but let’s make sure it is in a form that promotes health (unrefined sea salt) rather than in a form that harms our health (refined table salt).

The World’s Diet Is Dangerously High In Caffeine

For the past several weeks, we have been sharing the reasons why the ‘World’s Diet’ is such a dangerous diet.
In this Health Tip we are going to examine another substance that is addictive and extremely toxic to the body, just as we learned animal source foods, refined sugar, and refined grains are.
Additionally, this addictive and toxic substance (drug) is devoid of fiber, and contains no nutrition. Yet it is consumed by a high percentage of both children and adults if they consume the World’s Diet.
Caffeine is its name of this addictive and toxic substance.
It is a substance found in coffee, many teas, and most soft drinks.
Webster’s Dictionary defines “caffeine” as “a white crystalline, bitter alkaloid, C8H10N4O2, derived from coffee or tea, used medically as a stimulant.”
Another alkaloid that has a similar effect upon the body as caffeine is theobromine.
Theobromine is found in chocolate and is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as “a crystalline alkaloid powder, C7H8N4O2 related to caffeine, obtained from the cacao bean and used chiefly in medicine as a diuretic and stimulant.”
You will notice that both “caffeine” and “theobromine” are defined as “alkaloids” along with being “stimulants” in Webster’s Dictionary. This is an important factor in our effort to learn more about these toxic substances.
Below, please note the bad company these stimulating alkaloids keep as Webster’s Dictionary defines “alkaloids”:
“Any of a large class of bitter tasting, nitrogen containing, alkaline ring compounds common in plants and including caffeine, theobromine, morphine C17, H19, N2, , nicotine C10, H14, N2, quinine C20, H24, N2, O2, and strychnine C21, H22, N2, NO2.”
But before we go any further, I need to lay a little biblical foundation for what will follow, so that we can better understand why “caffeine” and “theobromine” are so dangerous to the body:
The Bible Tells Us In Psalm 139:14
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
Truer words were never spoken! The physical body we each possess is “wonderfully made” (by God), and it is important that we realize the body we each possess is comprised of approximately 100 trillion living cells.
If we keep our bodily fluids purified and our cells free of toxic build-up, we will experience health.
If we fail to keep our bodily fluids purified and our cells free of toxic build-up, we get sick.
We keep our bodily fluids purified and our cells free of toxic build-up when we cease consuming toxic substances and start consuming the primarily raw, 100% plant based foods God designed our bodies to thrive on — especially when our diets include an abundance of raw vegetable juices and green smoothies.
If We Want To Promote Health And Avoid Disease
If we want to promote health and avoid disease, we must carefully avoid placing protoplasmic poisons into the body.
Yet, on a daily basis, the average person consuming the World’s Diet is placing protoplasmic poisons into their bodies, not realizing that every one of these poisons is a toxic drug that does great harm to the body!
These drugs may be in the form of caffeine, theobromine (a drug related to caffeine), inorganic sodium chloride (white table salt), refined sugar, alcohol, nicotine and other drugs derived from plants including but limited to marijuana, cocaine, heroin, along with doctor prescribed and over-the-counter drugs.
Not a single one of these substances are a food that will nourish the physical body.
They are all addictive drugs, that will poison the body.
Sadly, most of these drugs are socially accepted and even cherished, commercially advertised, some medically prescribed, and often government subsidized.
Caffeine Is A Drug
Coffee is the most popular and widely used stimulant in the world and coffee is the major source of caffeine.
Coffee is also the most popular beverage in the world, with tea and caffeinated soda coming in second and third place.
One cup of drip coffee contains 150 mg of caffeine; one cup of brewed black tea 50 mg of caffeine; and green tea, which is being so highly touted for its antioxidant properties, can contain as much caffeine as black tea. (Three cups of decaffeinated coffee still has the same amount of caffeine remaining in it as a cup of regular coffee.)
A 12-ounce can of caffeinated soft drink contains 50 mg of caffeine, and an 8-ounce bar of milk chocolate contains 50 mg of caffeine.
Raw Chocolate
While many realize the dangers inherent in the average commercial chocolate product, there is an organic, raw chocolate craze sweeping the raw food movement today, with some touting its benefits.
However, on closer examination we learn the following about raw organic chocolate:
The cacao bean, from which organic raw chocolate is made, contains: methylxanthines (a stimulating drug known as caffeine), theobromine, and theophyllin, (all of which are known to produce permanent degenerative alterations in cellular protoplasm). The cacao bean also contains more tannin than tea, plus oxalic acid, cannabinoids, and aflatoxins.
Dr. John McDougall Speaks On The Subject Of Caffeine
Following are a few quotes taken from Dr. John McDougall’s book “The McDougall Plan”:
(1) “Some of the most popular drugs consumed by people of affluent western nations are found in coffee beans, tea leaves, and cocoa beans (chocolate) . . . all of which contain a group of natural substances known as methylxanthines. These chemicals include caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine. Many prescription and nonprescription drugs also contain methylxanthines.
(2) “One of the most important of the methylxanthines is the popular drug ‘caffeine’. . . undesirable effects from the stimulating properties of caffeine include: elevated heart rate, irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, frequent urination, increased gastric acid secretion (which contributes to indigestion, gastritis, and ulcers), nervousness, irritability, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, and diarrhea. Obviously, discontinuing caffeine will relieve the problems caused by this drug. It is particularly important for someone with hypertension who is trying to lower his or her blood pressure to stop drinking caffeinated beverages.
(3) “Caffeine has been shown to cause birth defects in animals and is suspected of causing the same defects in humans. It would follow that you should completely avoid coffee, tea, colas, and chocolate in all forms during pregnancy.
(4) “All three of the methylxanthines can stimulate growth of breast cells, causing painful enlargement of breast tissue and benign lumps. This condition is known as fibrocystic disease. . . In as many as 90 percent of women with fibrocystic disease, these benign breast lumps significantly improve or completely disappear in two to six months when methylxanthines are eliminated from the diet. There is also concern from investigators that the chronic stimulation of the breast tissue by methylxanthines may progress to cancer of the breast. Cancer of the bladder also has been related to caffeine use.
(5) “One more undesirable effect of caffeine is that the drug has been shown to cause loss of calcium from the body. Therefore, another dietary maneuver you can use to prevent and possibly correct thin, calcium-deficient bones, or osteoporosis, would be to discontinue use of caffeine.
(6) “The body actually becomes physically addicted to caffeine. When you attempt to quit taking this drug, expect withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, anxiety, irritability, drowsiness, tension, and depression. Withdrawal symptoms can last as long as a week. ”
Dr. Russell Blaylock Speaks Out On The Subject Of Caffeine
In the November 2005 issue of Newsmax magazine Dr. Blaylock reports:
“Caffeine is considered to be the most widely used psychoactive substance in the world. In some ways it is acting like MDMA (Ecstasy) and cocaine. That is, it stimulates brain cells intensively . . . If you stop drinking caffeine you will notice two things right away: that you cannot stay awake and that you have a splitting headache . . . This is because the brain has turned down the sensitivity to caffeine so much that your brain is struggling to remain conscious. The headache is because of rebound dilation of the blood vessels in the scalp. . . Excessive caffeine has several dangers. With high consumption, one can have a sudden seizure or even abnormal heartbeats. On some occasions the abnormal heartbeats – called arrhythmias – can lead to sudden death, especially if your magnesium is low.”
More Adverse Effects Research Has Revealed
- Caffeine stresses the nervous system, increases uric acid production and can lead to kidney damage. Researchers at Boston University Medical Center consider coffee intake to be associated with heart attacks and cancer, and when used with sugar becomes even more harmful.
- “Coffee nerves” or “coffee jitters” can occur after 150 mg (1 cup) are ingested, while physiological and psychological dependence can occur at 300 mg/day (just 2 cups of coffee).
- 62% of Americans in a recent survey claimed they “. . . could not function . . .” without their daily coffee (caffeine) intake.
- Children are far more susceptible to caffeine intoxication due to lighter body weight and comparative purity of physiology. Parents who wouldn’t dream of giving their children coffee are giving them the equivalent dose of caffeine every time they let them indulge in caffeinated soft drinks, cocoa, iced tea, and chocolate.
- Most of the caffeine taken from coffee in the decaffeinization process is bought by the soft drink industry and added to sodas!
- Caffeine intoxication is a form of severe poisoning that occurs at the cellular level when as little as 250 mg of caffeine is consumed in a day. This toxic stimulant may result in heart palpitations, stomach irritation, dizziness, muscle tension and trembling, insomnia, shortness of breath, diarrhea, ringing ears, lightheadedness, and headaches.
- Caffeine first triggers an adrenalin release and then mimics the “fight-or-flight” response by stimulating the cardio-respiratory and central nervous systems. Every cell, organ, and system is affected by caffeine.
- Caffeine increases blood pressure, causes irregular heart rate, and restricts brain blood flow. It is implicated in cardiovascular disease.
- Six cups of coffee daily doubles heart attack risk.
- Caffeine stimulates overproduction of gastric pepsin/hydrochloric acid, contributing to the formation of stomach ulcers.
- Besides all of the above, caffeine can stimulate mental disorders with symptoms identical to “anxiety neurosis”: nervousness, irritability, self-consciousness, moodiness, and/or depression. Indeed, some people who suffer from mental disorders are undoubtedly “adding fuel to the fire” when they become caught in a vicious circle of caffeine use.
Caffeine is either the cause or a contributing cause of many of the physical and psychological problems being experienced today.
Please remember that caffeine and theobromine are addictive drugs! Along with animal source foods, refined sugar, refined grains, and table salt, these substances are the killer foods of our day — and the cause of most physical problems.

The World’s Diet – Dangerously High In Refined Sugar

Over the last several weeks, we have been learning about the shortcomings and dangers of the world’s diet.
In this Health Tip we are going to examine a substance that makes up a high percentage of the world’s diet — and discover why it is so dangerous to your health.
Refined Sugar Is A Dead, Fiberless Poison
Refined sugar is not a food substance at all. It is a dangerous poison that is consumed by almost every man, woman, and child, in large quantities, on a daily basis.
It is a dead (contains no enzymatic activity), fiberless, and good-for-nothing killer that creates monumental problems within the body.
Refined sugar is something God never intended our physical bodies to consume.
The only sugar God designed our physical bodies to ever have to deal with are the natural sugars found in the living (enzymatically alive), raw fruits and vegetables God created for us in the Garden!
Only 100 years ago, the average annual intake of refined sugar was approximately 5 pounds per person per year. Today, the average annual intake of refined sugar is around 172 pounds per person per year.
This means that if a person is consuming the Standard American Diet (SAD), that person is placing into their God-made physical bodies approximately 50 teaspoons of refined sugar, each and every day of their life.
If a person lives to the age of 80, they will have during their lifetime placed into their body some 13,760 pounds of refined sugar.
My friends that means that the average person on the “world’s diet” consumes nearly 7 tons of refined sugar in their lifetime.
That amount, 13,760 pounds, equals 2,752 five-pound bags of refined sugar.
Can you visualize what 2,752 five pound bags of refined sugar looks like when in the grocery store there are usually no more than ten 5-pound bags on the shelf?
Refined Sugar Is A Dead Food
All refined sugars originated as a natural, unrefined sugar in a living plant. As such, natural sugars contain a complete complement of enzymes, nutrients and fiber, just as God intended.
By the time natural sugar reaches its refined sugar stage, all nutrients have been removed, all enzymes destroyed, and all fiber removed.
As such, refined sugar is a very dead and toxic substance.
Let’s look for a moment at the process of taking sugar cane or sugar beet in its nutrient rich, fiber rich, enzymatically alive state as found in the plant, into a refined, fiberless, lifeless, nutrient-devoid product.
The following information was taken from a newsletter written by Charlotte Gerson of the world-famous Gerson Clinic:
“Sugar is a basic element in starchy food; however, processed sugar is a completely different matter. The sugar we purchase in the supermarket for personal consumption is processed sugar. This kind of sugar is heated up in chalk-milk, so that calcium and protein are extracted. After the process, it becomes alkaloid, destroying all vitamin content. In the second phase the sugar is mixed with acid chalk, carbonic gas, sulfur dioxide and finally with natrium bicarbonate. The mixture is cooked and cooled off several times and thereafter crystallized and centrifuged. The dead mass is then treated with strontium hydroxide. Subsequently it arrives at the refinery where it is passed over chalk carbon acid to clean it. Dark coloring is removed by adding sulfuric acid and then it is filtered with bone charcoal. Finally, it is colored with Indathrenblue or the highly toxic Ultramarine. This product’s chemical composition is C12H22O11, which you can buy in shops as ‘pure cane’ sugar.”
Refined Sugar Is Fragmented
Through heating and mechanical and chemical processing, all vitamins, proteins, fats, enzymes and fiber – indeed, every single nutrient is removed until nothing but pure white sugar, pure ‘naked calories,’ pure refined carbohydrate remains.
Sixty-four food elements are destroyed in the processing. Fragmented foods like these set up nutritional imbalances that precipitate health problems galore.
Refined Sugar Is Highly Acidic
Like animal source foods and refined grains, refined sugar is also extremely ‘acid forming.’
In fact, refined sugar is possibly the most acidic substance one can consume. Soft drinks, which usually contain at least 10 teaspoons of refined sugar, have a pH between 2.8 and 3.5, making it the greatest source of acid we can place into our bodies.
In an effort to neutralize all of this acid, the body takes vital alkaline minerals, calcium being the most plentiful, from the body’s bone structure in an effort to neutralize the acidity. The acidity found in all animal source foods and refined grains cause the body to lose calcium as well.
This highly refined acidic sugar intake, along with the consumption of acidic animal and acidic grain source foods, causes the body to remove so much calcium from the bones and teeth that the bones become osteoporotic (porous) and teeth decay.
Refined Sugar Creates Blood Sugar Disorders
One pound of apples contains 263 calories, whereas one pound of candy contains 1800 calories.
Refined sugar is concentrated far beyond what the God-created human body was designed to process at one time, while the body processes the much smaller amount of natural sugar found in apples just fine.
If a body is going to survive, it must find a way to somehow cope with the incredibly high amounts of sugar found in refined sugar. The body learns how to cope with it, but in so doing, often creates two new physical problems – diabetes and hypoglycemia.
Diabetes
The primary cause of diabetes is the fat contained in animal products which coats the cells and hinders the insulin from entering the cell.
But when a diabetic consumes refined sugar, the pancreas has difficulty producing adequate insulin when the blood sugar rises. Concentrated amounts of sugar cause a rapid rise in blood sugar.
Chronic intake of refined sugar eventually exhausts the pancreas as it tries to compensate. Thus the diabetic is condemned to having to take ever-increasing amounts of insulin to compensate.
Diabetes is the #3 killer disease in America, preceded only by cardiovascular related problems and cancer.
Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia is the flip side of diabetes. Hypoglycemia occurs when the body still has a fairly strong pancreas. The body overreacts to concentrated sugar intake and releases too much insulin from the pancreas. Blood sugar levels then plummet far below the normal stable level.
The suffering hypoglycemic often experiences fatigue, headaches; mental depression, and irritability.
Depression is often dealt with by the intake of more refined sugar, and so the hypoglycemic is caught in an endless cycle that causes the pancreas to wear out from constant over stimulation.
This often results in diabetes, because now the sufferer cannot produce sufficient insulin for normal metabolic activities.
Refined Sugar Promotes Emotional Instability
After a “sugarholic” has consumed a box of candy — or bag of cookies, or any large amount of refined sugar — they know how self-abused and depressed they feel.
Indeed, studies reveal a strong link between juvenile and adult criminal offenses and sugar addiction.
Similar research reveals a link between mental illness and sugar abuse. Hypoglycemic reactions, for the very sensitive consumer, promote extreme irrationality and emotional instability, which can lead to aggressiveness.
Studies reveal that sugar may be as involved in mental illness, divorce, and crime as alcohol has been found to be.
Refined sugar is one of the major contributing factors to depression!
ADD and ADHD are running rampant among our children and even some adults!
Isn’t it a paradox that these emotional problems, caused by a very toxic and poisonous addictive drug called refined sugar, are then treated with another poison — like Ritalin or Prozac!
How sad!
If your child is having a behavioral problem, why not consider removing all refined sugar in their diet instead?
Refined Sugar Contributes To Heart Disease
Animal fat is not the only contributing factor in heart disease.
Those on a highly refined sugar diet show significantly higher levels of fat in their blood than those who eat no refined sugar.
This high fat content in the blood is directly related to the development of plaque build-up within the arteries, then to hardening of the arteries, and ultimately to heart attacks and strokes.
Refined Sugar Leads To Addiction And Weight Gain
Refined sugar is highly caloric in its pure form.
But then it is often made worse by combining it with something containing high fat, like shortening, along with some salt.
This produces a tempting goodie like candy, cookies, cake, pie, fudge, a donut, or cinnamon bun.
Often these high sugar foods are consumed with a high calorie sugar drink, like soda pop.
All of this sugar contributes to weight gain.
If a person consumes just one 12-ounce can of soda pop a day for one year, that 10 teaspoons of sugar found in each can of soda could add 12 pounds to their weight in just one year.
When these excess calories are not burned for energy, they are stored as fat, contributing to the obesity epidemic we are seeing today among children and adults alike. Obesity is an underlying factor in not only cardiovascular disease but most other chronic diseases.
Furthermore, because of the way it plays havoc with emotions, refined sugar is highly addicting – it works exactly like a drug. This means that once a sugarholic sufferer has given into this crystalline sweetness, they can’t stop consuming.
Refined sugar is every bit as addictive as nicotine and alcohol and withdrawal from it can be as difficult as withdrawing from cocaine!
We have found that when a person decides to adopt The Hallelujah Diet, they usually do not have a great deal of difficulty eliminating the animal products, white flour products, table salt, or even caffeine (which is another addictive drug).
Many find that the most difficult substance to eliminate is refined sugar.
Sugar has a powerful addictive influence upon many people.
Have you ever noticed that children, who are allowed to have candy, are always asking for more?
They are never satisfied no matter how much you give them! This is because their little bodies have become addicted to sugar and their bodies are screaming for a fix.

Refined Sugar Compromises The Immune System
Let’s remember that the immune system is what God built into your body to protect you from the germs, viruses, and bacteria of this world.
The immune system is our first line of defense!
But refined sugar is an immune system suppressant — it knocks out this first line of defense.
That is why those who consume refined sugar find themselves susceptible to colds, the flu, and all sorts of other physical breakdowns, while those who consume The Hallelujah Diet, which contains no refined sugar, rarely if ever experiences a cold, the flu, or other physical breakdowns.
This editor hasn’t experienced a cold or the flu since eliminating refined sugar and adopting a primarily raw, plant-based diet over 35 years ago!
Don’t forget, God tells us we are going to reap what we sow…

Sugar Contributes To Myriad Physical Problems
Refined sugar is associated with malnutrition and decreased resistance to disease.
Refined sugar impacts quality of life — it increases the severity of PMS; decreases cognitive or intellectual function, especially in children; contributes to heart disease and cancer; and so much more.
Following is just a partial list of other health problems related to the intake of refined sugar:

Conclusion
Refined sugar and products made with it become the cause or contributing cause of many of the physical problems being experienced today.
Refined sugar products are all dead, fiberless, and following animal source foods, are the second most popular of the deadly, killer foods of our day.
No wonder God says in Hosea 4:6:
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
Is it not a sad commentary, that instead of dealing with our physical problems by eliminating their causes, we deal with symptoms?
We take a poisonous medication instead. It will never fix the problem — but rather exacerbate it!
Almost every physical problem we experience in a lifetime, other than accidents, is because we have failed to nourish our physical bodies the way God intended in Genesis 1:29!
“AND GOD SAID, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed (vegetable), which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat (food).”
