Rev. Malkmus’ 78th Birthday
Feb 4th
February 12th is a very special day in my life — First, because it was on this date in 1934, at 8:20 a.m., that I physically entered this world, and secondly because it was on this same date in 1992, Hallelujah Acres was born.
I feel blessed to be celebrating my 78th birthday. Neither my mom nor dad lived past age 65. I have outlived them both by 13 years and am only four years from outliving the oldest family member on either mom’s or dad’s side.
Could The Hallelujah Diet have something to do with it?
Is longevity in the genes or could longevity possibly be in diet as well? Time will tell!
Mother died following a bout with colon cancer, and dad died after suffering numerous strokes and heart attacks.
So if genes have anything to do with what physical problems develop in a person’s lifetime, surely I was a prime candidate for both mom’s cancer and dad’s strokes. Sure enough, in 1976, at the age of 42, I was told I had colon cancer, and in 2001, at age 67, I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke.
In 1976, when I was told I had cancer, rather than going the medical route mom had gone before me for her colon cancer with horrible consequences, I opted for “The Genesis 1:29 Diet.”
Within weeks of making the diet change, my rectal bleeding stopped. Within one year of making the diet change, my baseball sized tumor was gone, and my cancer has remained gone for 36 years without any help from modern medicine.
Now about that stroke…
In 2001, I did a speaking tour in South Africa where I had delivered seven seminars in six days to an average crowd of 600. I was also in airplanes for 53 hours. Shortly thereafter, I returned home and, during a seminar at Hallelujah Acres in Shelby, lost my ability to speak coherently.
I was rushed to the Shelby hospital where I was diagnosed as having experienced a hemorrhagic stroke (a blood vessel had ruptured in my brain). Doctors blamed the stroke on the extended stress experienced during my South African speaking tour and 53 hours in flight.
Doctors immediately wanted to introduce intravenous drugs into my body and airlift me to Charlotte for surgery to cauterize the bleed, but they needed permission. I was in no mental condition to give permission and so they turned to Rhonda.
Rhonda knew that not a single drug had entered my body in the previous 25 years; she was concerned the drugs would kill me. So, she refused not only the drugs, but also refused the doctors permission to open up my brain to cauterize the bleed.
After Rhonda refused to give the doctors permission to treat me, the doctor told her that without treatment I would die. I was sent home by ambulance, placed in my bed, and Rhonda had to sign a paper saying I was still alive when I arrived home.
At home, Rhonda immediately started me on the Hallelujah Recovery Diet, which includes a fresh raw vegetable juice or a barley powder drink alternately every waking hour.
By the next morning my thinking abilities had begun to return and continued to improve day by day.
Within one week of the stroke, Rhonda took me to a neurologist who read my hospital record, talked to me, and exclaimed “You’re a miracle!” He went on to say that 50% of all who experience a hemorrhagic stroke die and the remaining 50% are usually left with physical and/or mental limitations, yet just one week following the stroke I had none.
I am convinced that if I had not been on The Hallelujah Diet when I experienced that stroke in 2001, and if Rhonda had not refused medical treatments, and if she had not given me copious amounts of raw vegetable juices, I would not be celebrating my 78th birthday.
I am still very much alive and the stroke has left me with absolutely no known limitations.
In fact, as I prepare to celebrate my 78th birthday, I feel absolutely TERRIFIC! They call me Mr. “T” here at Hallelujah Acres. I still have incredible energy, endurance and stamina, (even more than I had before the cancer or stroke), along with a resting pulse in the 50s, and I still find life on planet earth a wonderful and exciting experience!
I am also thrilled to still be able to do anything physically I desire – including daily vigorous aerobic workouts, stretching and weight resistance exercises, going on 2 – 6 mile power walks with muscle-building walking sticks, doing hard physical work, you name it.
I go to bed around 9:00 p.m. most evenings and then most mornings I am up at 3:00 a.m. where I work on my weekly Health Tips in my study till 6:00 a.m. Then I go back to bed from 6:00 till 7:00 for a power nap before rising for the day full of energy from the time my feet hit the floor until bedtime that evening.
And as for my energy level, you can come see me in action at one of my seminars. I do my seminars (3 hours) from memory and never miss a beat! I’m often called the “Hallelujah Energizer Bunny!”
Last February (2011), I told Rhonda that I was going to start slowing down by reducing the number of seminars that I was conducting and taking some time off to smell the roses, and that is what I have been doing for the past year.
Still, I conducted 25 seminars last year, reduced the number of television and radio interviews and stopped making those long speaking tours. But I continue to write these Health Tips and I am working on a new book due out soon! And I can still type over 50 words a minute with almost zero errors.
Rhonda and I are both active in our church. We both love gardening and grow much of our salad vegetables and fruit. And I still mow my own lawn behind a walk-behind mower for several hours at a clip, and take care of the landscaping.
Today, at the age of 78, I have no sign of senility, Parkinson’s, arthritis, mental fog, liver spots on my hands, or a protruding tummy. I haven’t an ache or a pain in my body, and still have a full head of hair.
My eyesight is such that I do not need glasses for distance or reading. In fact, three years ago, after having a “restriction” on my drivers license for corrective lenses for over 50 years, I passed my North Carolina driver’s license eye test without glasses! The restriction for corrective lenses was removed. A big hallelujah!
At age 78, my hearing and sense of smell are exceptionally keen; and I weigh the same as I did in high school, with a waist of 32 inches. And because I have been on a 100% plant-based, mostly raw diet for 36 years (with lots of daily vegetable juices), there is no indication of a protein, mineral, vitamin, or any other nutritional deficiency. (I haven’t eaten anything from an animal in 36-years – not even cheese.)
And for those who might be interested, my height is 5’ 9”; weight 145 pounds; and I have a lean, muscular body, with rock hard abs, calves, biceps/triceps, and I am still building muscle without any animal source protein in 36 years. The audience always gets a kick out of my beating my tummy and showing my muscles in my seminars.
I do not believe I have ever felt stronger in body or mind then I feel as I celebrate my 78th birthday.
To God be all the glory, because He created this physical body I possess, and he designed it to be exercised and nourished with exclusively garden foods so that I could experience health into my later years.
I believe the only reason I have reached the age of 78 in such a physical and mental state is because I listened and applied what my Creator communicated to me in His Word, the Bible, in Genesis 1:29 some 36 years ago and I became “not a forgetful hearer”…
“But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
James 1:25
And let’s not forget what the Bible says in Galatians 6:7: “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Here we have an irreversible law that works both positively and negatively. Sow good diet and lifestyle and reap health and long life – sow unhealthy food and poor lifestyle and reap ill health and early death.
Isn’t it wonderful that God has given each of us the ability to CHOOSE a long and healthy life or a short and sickly one?
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore CHOOSE LIFE, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
Deuteronomy 30:19
Because 36 years ago I CHOSE LIFE, I still have the ability to deliver the first-Saturday-of-the-month seminar here at Hallelujah Acres, still drive my car to give seminars in the eastern U.S., still write the weekly Hallelujah Health Tip, and still have the ability of “smelling the roses” — all with a strong body and sound mind.
Many tell me that I have more fire in the delivery of my seminars than I had before the stroke, and I still deliver the three hour seminar without notes and then answer questions, while experiencing no fatigue.
Today, my passion and concern for others, especially God’s people who are sick and dying needlessly, has not slackened!
Thank you for your continued love, prayers, and support, and thank you for sending in those healing testimonies – nothing encourages and motivates me more than reading how the Hallelujah Diet has restored the health of God’s children and in some cases even saved their lives and extended their ministries.
And thank you especially for those who have stood with us, prayed for us, and encouraged us through the years. We love you and thank God for each of you!
The Birth of Hallelujah Acres
Jan 10th
I am a Christian! I believe the Bible to be the very Word of God! Yes, I believe that:
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
(II Timothy 3:16-17)
In fact, I believe the Bible so much that in the margins of my Bible, opposite Genesis 1:1 where we read “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”, I have penned the words “AND I BELIEVE ALL THE REST!”
However, 36 years ago there was a verse in the Bible I questioned. It is found in Romans 8:28…
“And we know that all things ‘work together for good’ to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Thirty-six years ago, at the age of 42, I was told I had colon cancer. Though I believed the Bible, I had to question how Romans 8:28 could fit the situation I found myself in. How could a cancer in my body “work together for good”?
God Used Various Circumstances
God used various circumstances in my life to prepare me for “such a time as this.” You see, I was raised by a mother who was a registered nurse, a graduate of Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Mother raised me to believe that when I got sick I should get to the doctor just as quickly as possible because the doctor was the only one capable of making me well.
So when my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 59, in keeping with what she believed and what she had taught me, she very willing submitted her body to the treatments the doctors told her were necessary. She had great faith in doctors and medical modalities.
Mother submitted her body to surgery, chemotherapy, and cobalt treatments (called radiation treatments today). Her death was a slow and agonizing one following these treatments. Though no single one of these treatments killed her, she was in and out of the hospital until she died at the age of 65.
At the time of mother’s death I was convinced that it wasn’t the cancer that ultimately caused her death, but the cumulative damage done to her immune system by the many treatments she had received.
Because her immune system had been so compromised by the treatments she had received, her body finally had to give up and give in. I remember saying “good-bye” to my mother as we placed her in the grave. It is a very sad event that you do not soon forget!
Now It Was My Turn
Now picture this if you will… I have just watched my mother go through this horrible cancer experience and death when I am told that I have the same form of cancer she had.
I was scared. How should I respond? What should I do?
Mother had raised me to put my faith in doctors. She instilled in my mind from my earliest remembrance that “when you get sick you go to the doctor and do what he says.”
But I had just seen mother get sick, I had seen her go to the doctor, and I had seen the horrible consequences of doing what the doctors said.
Should I do what mother had programmed me to do while growing up? Or should I seek an alternative way of dealing with it?
Breaking a lifetime of programming by your mother is not an easy thing to do.
How I Broke The Programming
But because of the horrible suffering and eventual death I had seem my mother experience following her acceptance of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, I broke programming and went searching for an alternative.
That search led me to an Evangelist friend in Texas by the name of Lester Roloff.
Brother Roloff was a great preacher but he had some very strange ideas about how we should feed the body, ideas totally contrary to the programming I had received for the previous 42 years of my life. Brother Roloff taught that we should not eat animal flesh but rather only the plant foods that came from the garden.
For his dietary ideas, Brother Roloff received lots of ridicule and rejection from fellow preachers! And I must admit that I had joined in with fellow preachers in ridiculing his admonitions to eat a plant-based diet and drink lots of carrot juice.
In fact, we preachers used to affectionately call him “Ole Carrot Juice Roloff.”
But now I had a dilemma. Though I had previously ridiculed Brother Roloff’s beliefs and his efforts to get fellow preachers to eat a plant-based diet, I had been told I had a serious and potentially life-threatening physical problem.
Perhaps it was time to reevaluate what he had been teaching and listen to what he had to say.
So I contacted Brother Roloff and shared my dilemma. His response was that I not go the medical route with my cancer, but rather do something as simple as change what I had been eating for the previous 42 years of my life. He told me to eat only what God told Adam he should eat in Genesis 1:29. He also encouraged me to drink a lot of carrot juice.
How Cancer Can “Work Together For Good”
Thinking I had nothing to lose by accepting Brother Roloff’s advice — and a lot better than accepting the horrible medical modalities that I felt had caused my mother’s death — I changed my diet overnight. I stopped eating animal flesh, stopped all forms of dairy, eliminated all refined sugar, refined grains, and all forms of caffeine.
The next day I ate nothing but raw, plant sourced foods and began drinking lots of carrot juice and distilled water. That was quite a drastic change from what I had previously been eating!
But the amazing thing was that after a few days of not feeling well (detoxing – as my body was throwing off accumulated poisons), I began to feel better.
Within a very short time my rectal bleeding stopped and within a year my baseball size tumor had disappeared and I was well! WOW! Within a year I had learned that “all things (CAN) work together for good”!
Hallelujah Acres Is Born
I was a preacher. I was saved at a Billy Graham Crusade in New York City on May 29, 1957, went to school for four years to prepare for the ministry, pastored various churches for many years, preached some 5,000 biblically-based messages, and read through the scriptures Genesis to Revelation in daily devotions most years. I thought I knew the Bible quite well.
But Brother Roloff had to re-introduce me to a verse in the Bible (Genesis 1:29) that I had probably read hundreds of times; it had just never registered. In this verse God had given Adam a diet intended to nourish his human physical body.
Who would know better what was proper nourishment for the human physical body than the creator of that body?
Now, at the encouragement of Brother Roloff, I had accepted and consumed that same Genesis 1:29 diet that God gave to Adam. Within a year of adopting it, my cancer was gone and I was well.
What should I do with this experience and knowledge?
Yes, not only did “all things work together for good” as far as my own physical health was concerned, but now God was using that same cancer experience to show me once again that “all things work together for good” when He led me to start a ministry called Hallelujah Acres. Little did I know it would bring health and healing to millions around the world.
On February 12, 2012, Hallelujah Acres will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Next week, the good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high, we will share how God used “all things working together for good” to take Hallelujah Acres from just a vision to a reality – from a ma and pa ministry in 1992 – to a worldwide ministry today. Trust you will join us.
Celebrating 52 Years Cancer Free
Dec 31st
On Monday, December 26th, Rhonda and I had the privilege of dining of with our dear friends Dr. Graeme Coad (age 75) and his wife, Beverly.
Dr. Coad was Chaplain for the 700 Club for 12 years and is currently pastor of Grace Chapel in Jacksonville, Florida.
We reminisced and praised the Lord for leading both of us to adopt His Genesis 1:29 diet after each of us was diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Coad was diagnosed with so-called “terminal” prostate cancer 16 years ago and I was told I had colon cancer 36 years ago.
Dr. Coad received his diagnosis while still Chaplain of the 700 Club back in 1995. It was then that he, after the medical community had given him a “no hope” diagnosis, turned to The Hallelujah Diet. Today, 16 years later, he is still cancer free and carrying on a very active lifestyle in a body fit for the Master’s use.
As you probably know, my experience with cancer 36 years ago caused me to refuse any medical treatments because of the horrible experience I had seen my own mother endure with the same cancer I had. Instead, I adopted God’s Genesis 1:29 diet (upon which The Hallelujah Diet is based) and today I too am cancer free and carrying on a very active lifestyle in a body fit for the Master’s use.
Not to mention, neither Dr. Coad nor myself have been sick since making the diet change; it seems fitting since we both have a passion for reaching the Christian community with the message “you don’t have to be sick.” In fact, Dr. Coad and Beverly became Hallelujah Acres Health Ministers 15 years ago and have been very active proclaiming God’s health message to the Christian community ever since.
In a reunion of sorts, Dr. Coad and I are teaming up on Saturday, February 18th at the Embassy Suites in Jacksonville, Florida for a “God’s Way to Ultimate” seminar. We’re celebrating a combined total of 52 years cancer free on The Hallelujah Diet!
Dr. Coad, myself, Beverly, and Rhonda would love to meet you and share our testimonies with you of how The Hallelujah Diet restored our health — in fact, the event will be just 6 days after I celebrate my 78th birthday (and Hallelujah Acres’ 20th anniversary) on February 12.
If you live in the Jacksonville area or just want to escape winter for a while — come hear this life-saving message!
Life With Dignity On The Hallelujah Diet
Nov 24th
In last week’s testimonies, we shared the experience of Health Minister Anita’s 80-year-old husband Bud, who after a four year battle with prostate cancer passed on to be with Jesus.
In that testimony, Anita shared how The Hallelujah Diet allowed him to have quality of life and an extended life without suffering the medical torture he would have experienced had he gone the medical route.
Following are a few of the responses to that testimony:
“I absolutely love reading these testimonies of the benefits of The Hallelujah Diet. Thank you!!!”
Becky A.
“Actually, that’s my goal. I don’t want a painful death. I want to thrive and pass on with grace when it’s my time.”
Kaylene P.
“I do believe this courageous gentleman went home because it was his time and that he died of old age, not only the cancer! Eighty years old is a well run race. What a blessing to hear how we can still die well and with our loved ones helping us in this day and age – Thank you for your very personal and brave testimony! God Bless!!!”
Donna C.
“Rev. Malkmus, thank you for your website and for the people that share their testimonies of living victoriously after adopting healthy eating. I was told I had colon cancer (just like you) and would have to have surgery to remove a portion of my colon and then having it reattached.
The following Sunday in a session for adults, our pastor was teaching on living holistically by adopting The Hallelujah Diet. I felt the Lord leading me to attend and the pastor talked about not only The Hallelujah Diet but also a book titled ‘The China Study’ by T. Colin Campbell. I got the book, read it, and realized that God wanted me to participate in my healing by changing the way I ate, which I learned had been the cause of my cancer.
So I immediately began a new way to live, by so eating that my body could receive the nutrients it needed to heal itself. After making the diet and lifestyle change, a final examination of my colon revealed my colon clear of cancer.
Praise God, I am now eating to live and no longer living to eat. In addition to having my colon still intact, I have lost some unwanted weight and have my health back, for which I thank God.”
Merilyn D.
“Pastor Malkmus, it is with a grin and a smile that I pass this information that I read today on a CBN email newsletter on to you. It said that doctors have just discovered that stem cells taken from the patient’s heart and allowed to mature and then reintroduced back into the patient’s heart have been observed to regenerate the heart for patients with heart failure and thus they are learning that the body has the ability to heal itself.
WOW! What a discovery!
Finally the world is learning what you have been saying over and over in your Health Tips for years, only they attribute this healing to the stem cells, while you attribute this ability of the body to heal itself to God and the stem cells that He created.
I want to also thank you for your recent article on the dangers of refined sugar which I have passed on to many. If only people would learn that the body will heal itself if we give it the right building materials, rather than relying on the world to do what only God gave the body the ability to do.
God bless you Pastor Malkmus and your ministry. I fully trust and believe in what you teach.”

“Five years ago after my sister was diagnosed with colon cancer, we both attended your free first Saturday-of-the-month seminar there in Shelby. It was my first experience hearing how what we eat and drink can affect our health.
After purchasing several of your books and reading a great deal both from them and on your website, I decided to adopt The Hallelujah Diet. Since making that diet change five years ago I have lost 104 pounds.
Thank you Dr. Malkmus for sharing this lifesaving knowledge!”
Melissa W.
NOTE: Our next first-Saturday-of-the-month, “God’s Way to Ultimate Health” seminar is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, right here at Hallelujah Acres in Shelby, North Carolina. In addition to there being no cost for the lifesaving information, all who attend will receive a free copy of the Hallelujah Acres Health News.
Chemo for Colon Cancer? No Thank You!
Sep 8th
For almost 20 years I have dedicated my life to improving the health of God’s people so that they might have physical bodies fit for the Master’s use!
My reward for these efforts? The testimonies I receive each day and share in these weekly Health Tips!
“In September 2008 I was diagnosed with colon cancer. After telling me the tumor was a stage-2 malignant squamous cell carcinoma, the doctor told me the treatment would be chemotherapy, radiation and surgery (an irreversible colostomy).
A red flag went up in my brain and I said ‘No thank you’, and said to myself and my husband: ‘It’s time to get on The Hallelujah Diet’ and I have been on the diet ever since.
I had heard about the diet several years earlier while watching a Christian television program with Rev. Malkmus as guest, but had never adopted it. However, one month after adopting the diet, while doctors were giving me a second opinion, I was getting weary of salads for lunch and supper so I inquired about going to the Hallelujah Acres Lifestyle Center in Plant City, Florida.
After that inquiry I convinced my husband we needed to attend so I could fully implement this lifestyle without getting frustrated at my lack of knowledge about preparing healthy foods.
That week at the Lifestyle Center changed my life as I found you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! My husband went with me and came away with so much new information that he agreed to make the diet change with me.
After returning home I heard from my second round of doctors that ‘standard treatment is chemo and radiation’. Then I was told of the side-effects: burning skin both inside and out, extreme pain, potential for secondary cancers like leukemia, and the list went on. I went home and watched the DVD ‘Healing Cancer from Inside Out.’
After watching that video I informed my doctors that MY plans were to treat my cancer with nutrition and they stared back at me. Finally one of them said, ‘Why don’t you want treatment’? I answered: ‘Because I don’t want poison injected into me, or my insides and outsides burned with radiation.’ They just didn’t get it!
My husband was nervous after those visits, so we located an alternative medical doctor who, along with the diet change, helped me rebuild my immune system with intravenous vitamin therapy, the opposite of chemotherapy and radiation, which tears down the immune system. I also had the tumor completely removed with clear margins. Following is a summary of some of the benefits I have received since I began The Hallelujah Diet:
- Regular check-ups continue to show my CANCER IS GONE.
- I lost 25 pounds the first month on the diet, for a total loss now of 40 pounds, and gone from a size 14 to a 10, and I feel so good.
- My blood work is phenomenal – cholesterol down 77 points and all other numbers are excellent. I don’t know if my blood work can get any better.
- My blood pressure has improved.
- Before the diet change my knees were getting very stiff but are much better now.
- I no longer have body odor and thus no need for a deodorant.
- My energy has increased and I no longer have that dragging spell in afternoon.
- And my acid reflux which I had suffered with for ten years before the diet change is GONE.
I now love shopping in the produce department and experimenting with new recipes. I have also joined an organic produce coop and have fresh vegetables delivered to my door from a local farm. But best of all – I LOVE FEELING SO GOOD.
I didn’t think it was possible to ever feel so good. . . . I had always thought that we should just expect those aches and pains and extra pounds as we got older. But we don’t have to. Good health is our birthright as God’s children. But I have learned that we have to participate and do our part if we want to enjoy the journey. Rev. Malkmus, Thank you for all you do.”
Health Minister Jill H., Florida
“Dr. Malkmus, I love the improvements you have made to The Hallelujah Acres website. It’s good to know that you guys are constantly improving your image and presentations. I feel very proud to be associated with you.
When recommending your website to people I have no doubt they will find the highest quality information. God bless you.”
Health Minister Kemz J., Nairobi, Kenya
“Since adopting The Hallelujah Diet I have lost 37 pounds and five inches around my waist. I have gone down from a size 20 in pants size to a large – YAHOOO!
I feel better overall, have better control of my diabetes, have tons of energy, memory and concentration have improved, I am happier, feel so much better, my emotions are more stable, and it sure makes it a lot easier to view things more positively now for a longer amount of time.
My mom has been doing the diet as well and has noticed big differences also, as well as having lost 22 pounds, and my little sister just started the diet recently and has already lost 13 pounds. Another ‘YAHOO’.”

My Doctor Wants Me To Have A Colonoscopy — Should I?
Jul 30th
I am 55 years old and recently went to my doctor for a ‘check-up.’ He wants me to go for a colonoscopy just to check to determine if everything is ok. Would that be a wise thing to do or rather should I not do it? Thank you for your response.
M.C.
EDITOR RESPONDS: It is not my place to tell you whether you should or should not do what your doctor advises.
However, as for me personally, after being on The Hallelujah Diet for over 35 years, a colonoscopy would not be an option. I have never had one and would never submit to one. Because I am eating a 100% plant-based diet and living a lifestyle that supports both gastrointestinal and prostate health, I see no need in submitting to a potentially dangerous invasive medical test.
My concern for a colonoscopy is that I have had a few folks write me in the past who told of the doctor accidentally perforating the lining of the colon during the procedure and causing monumental problems. Below you can read what I found on the internet regarding colonoscopies:
“While rare, death can occur during the colonoscopy procedure. Most deaths during colonoscopy result from perforation, however, there is certainly potential for death from adverse reactions to the anesthesia, or as a result of either hemorrhaging or stroke should the procedure precipitate those adverse reactions.”
