More Hallelujah Acres “Firsts”
Feb 21st
In last week’s Health Tip #743 we began a series sharing how Hallelujah Acres has been first in so many areas. In this Health Tip we want to continue that journey…
Hallelujah Acres Has Its Beginning
On February 12th 1992, Hallelujah Acres had its beginning when Rhonda and I opened an 11-foot-wide storefront on Main Street in Rogersville, Tennessee. In that tiny restaurant and health food store, we began serving vegan foods and proclaiming a health message to the Christian community.
The message we proclaimed to the Christian community (and to anyone else who would listen) was: “You Don’t Have to be Sick”, and if you are already sick, “How to Eliminate Sickness” through a simple diet and lifestyle change called “The Hallelujah Diet” — based on God’s original diet for mankind in Genesis 1:29.
Slowly, people began applying this Hallelujah health message and testimonies of healing began surfacing in churches across the land and across the land and even in other countries.
By 1994, some of those who had seen their physical and psychological problems disappear as a result of making this diet and lifestyle change began asking if we would teach them how to share the Hallelujah health message with fellow Christians.
Health Minister Training Begins
In August 1994, in response to these requests, Hallelujah Acres held its first Health Minister Training. That first training was conducted in a building still under construction, on a mountaintop in east Tennessee. The floor was still plywood, windows were not yet installed, and attendees sat on 2-by-10 wooden planks resting on concrete blocks.
That first Health Minister Training established Hallelujah Acres as the first Christian ministry to train others on how to spread its message of health and healing, based on Genesis 1:29.
There were 25 Christians attending that extremely humble first Health Minister training. Since then, the number of people who have completed Health Minister Training has grown to over 10,000, with trained Health Ministers now located in every state in the United States and in at least 48 other countries.
Today, when a person in a church requests prayers for a recent diagnosis of cancer or other serious physical problem, it is not unusual for people to encourage that person to check out www.hacres.com and learn more about an alternative to the traditional, immune-destroying modalities of modern medicine.
Even though we have over 10,000 trained Health Ministers, we feel that our Health Ministry is still in its infancy! We continue to receive requests from across America and around the world to come to their city or country to train them as Health Ministers.
We are currently looking into the possibility of putting Health Minister training online so that those, especially in other countries, can obtain training. Last year we had 30 Nigerians registered to come to Hallelujah Acres in Shelby, North Carolina for Health Minister Training — but only two were able to obtain visas.
Friends, here at Hallelujah Acres we are dreaming BIG dreams, just as we have been dreaming big dreams for the past 20 years. We believe that with God, all things (even BIG dreams) are possible.
Our goal is that someday, in some way, every church in the world will have a trained Hallelujah Acres Health Minister to minister to the sick in their individual churches and communities. This is why we are so thrilled when pastors attend Health Minister training (over 800 pastors have been through training thus far) or have sent someone from their church to be trained.
Currently, in most churches across America and around the world, all the pastor can offer those with serious physical problems is prayer and then encourage them to go to a doctor.
But now imagine if a trained Health Minister was in the church. The pastor would be able to refer the sick to a trained Health Minister who can share with them how to recover from their physical problems through a biblically-based, simple, diet and lifestyle change. They would be able to rebuild their immune system so their body’s self-healing abilities could be restored.
I personally encourage you to consider Health Minister Training! Click here for more information and watch for news concerning online Health Minister Training!
First To Publish Books About Genesis 1:29 Diet
Why Christians Get Sick my first book, written in 1988 (four years before Hallelujah Acres had its beginning) was first published in 1989. It was the first book directed to the Christian community, warning of the dangers of consuming the Standard American Diet (SAD), and encouraging them to adopt God’s Genesis 1:29 diet.
This book was originally self-published, but later picked up by Destiny Image. To this day, “Why Christians Get Sick” results in more positive feedback all of my other books combined. Over a million copies of this book are now in print, and it is now available in several languages.
“God’s Way To Ultimate Health”
My second book, God’s Way To Ultimate Health, was first published in 1995. It is a large book that promotes God’s Genesis 1:29 diet and contains over 300 testimonies from folks who have had their health restored after changing their eating habits to line up with The Hallelujah Diet.
The Hallelujah Diet
My latest book, The Hallelujah Diet, was first published in 2006. Whether you’ve been on the diet for a while, or you’re just starting out, this book will guide, encourage, and inform you on your journey to optimal health.
New book coming! – I am currently working on a new book due out later in 2012… watch for details!
First Recipe Books Promoting Genesis 1:29 Diet
When Rhonda adopted a modified Genesis 1:29 diet (what would become The Hallelujah Diet) in 1990 due to her debilitating arthritis, she was completely healed within a year. At the time, there were no recipe books available that matched this diet. So, she set out to write one.
Rhonda, like me, had never written a book before, no less a recipe book. It took her two years to write Recipes For Life…From God’s Garden and it turned out to be a tremendous success! The book has 358 pages containing over 400 recipes that fit The Hallelujah Diet.
Over 250,000 copies of this spiral bound book are now in print. In fact, in 2011 it was the best selling book of all the books Hallelujah Acres sells!
Rhonda has since written two more books: “Hallelujah Holiday Recipes”, and “Salad Dressings For Life from God’s Garden”.
Rhonda is currently working on her forth recipe book due from the publisher later this year. Be watching for its release!
First Online Christian Health Ministry
While there have been, for many years, Christian ministries with websites that promote the spiritual aspects of life, until Hallelujah Acres came along in 1997, there was not another Christian ministry promoting healthy living. To this day, Hallelujah Acres remains the worldwide leader in this category.
First Christian Ministry To Publish Online Health Tips
In 1997, along with the introduction of our Hallelujah Acres website, we began publishing a weekly, email-based Health Tip, geared to the Christian community, encouraging them to God’s original Genesis 1:29 Diet.
The number of subscribers to this Health Tip has grown from just a few in the early days to nearly 100,000 subscribers today. Every week there is a feature article, usually an answered question, a recipe from Rhonda, testimonies, and an update on what is happening at Hallelujah Acres.
Over 700 previous Health Tips are available by clicking the “wall clock” image on the right hand side of the Health Tip home page.
Next week… the good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high, we will continue sharing other “firsts” Hallelujah Acres has been responsible for. Amazingly, the list is quite long and has had a tremendous influence on the health information being shared today by others around the world. Trust you will join us.
Florida Seminar and TV Appearance
Feb 13th
This past Friday, February 10th I had the opportunity to appear on Arthelene Rippy’s Homekeeper TV program in Largo, Florida.
I first appeared on her show in 1999 and have appeared on her show most every year since. We appreciate Arthelene so much for her support and prayers these many years!
Appearing on the show with me were Health Ministers Dave and Sherry Orcutt. Dave and Sherry own and operate our Hallelujah Acres Lifestyle Center in Plant City, Florida.
On the telecast, Dave shared how 11 years ago he was unable to walk due to debilitating multiple sclerosis and how in less than a year on The Hallelujah Diet he totally recovered.
Dave and Sherry also assisted me, along with my wife Rhonda, with Saturday’s seminar in the Embassy Suites Ballroom in Brandon, Florida. The ballroom was set up with 250 chairs and we not only filled all the chairs but also had a few standing around the wall.
The testimonies shared by those gathered are always the highlight of these seminars! Folks share all the improvements they have experienced in their health since they adopted The Hallelujah Diet. They almost always include diabetes gone, arthritis gone, lowered blood pressure and cholesterol, cancers gone and incredible weight losses, some of over 100 pounds — and Saturday was no exception.
It was a great seminar and we are already looking forward to next Saturday’s seminar (Feb. 18) in the ballroom of the Embassy Suites, Jacksonville, Florida; the seminar begins at 10:00 a.m. Come early in order to be sure of a good seat as seating is limited.
Rhonda will also be there to greet the folks and we will be assisted by Health Ministers Graeme and Beverley Coad. Graeme was Chaplain for the 700 Club for 12 years before being diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer at age 59.
Graeme chose The Hallelujah Diet rather than conventional cancer therapies for that cancer and is still alive and well on planet earth 16 years later.
His testimony of healing will inspire you as will Rhonda’s healing from debilitating arthritis 20 years ago, and my healing from colon cancer 36 years ago — and we don’t get sick anymore!
If you live in the Jacksonville area please plan to attend and bring someone with you.
Also, if you cannot attend but know someone who lives in the Jacksonville area, let them know of the opportunity.
Hallelujah Acres History — 1997-2001
Jan 31st
In previous Health Tips, I shared how God used a colon cancer diagnosis in 1976 to birth a health ministry called Hallelujah Acres, and how we struggled during its early years.
In this week’s Health Tip I want to pick up where we left off, sharing how Hallelujah Acres grew from 1997 to 2001.
To God Be The Glory
As I reflect on what has transpired, the words of that great Christian hymn come to mind: “To God be the glory, Great things He has done” I want to say right up front that without God’s leading and help, Hallelujah Acres would not have become a reality.
Man can only do so much, but when God is in it, all things are possible!
1997 – Hallelujah Acres Moves To North Carolina
The location of our ministry on a mountaintop in Tennessee was running out of room; we started a search for a new location. A business man from Shelby, North Carolina attended one of my seminars there in Tennessee and shared that he owned a building that would be perfect for our ministry.
The location was ideal – 45 minutes from the international airport in Charlotte, North Carolina and within an hour’s drive to four interstate highways. Shelby had a small enough population (20,000), to have the small town appeal, but large enough to provide all basic needs and less than an hour’s drive to Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina.
The owner of this Shelby property knew that we didn’t have much financially to purchase the building so he allowed us to move into the building while he held the mortgage and allowed us to pay off the mortgage as finances allowed. We moved into our new facility on November 1, 1997.
1997 – Paul Malkmus Joins Hallelujah Acres
Early in 1997 Rhonda and I knew we needed someone to help us manage a ministry that was growing too big for ma and pa to keep track of and oversee. My thoughts turned to my son Paul who was a career man in the U.S. Air Force. Paul was just three years from achieving the 20 years needed for retirement when I contacted him.
I told him I needed help but he wasn’t interested as he was intent on securing his retirement and preparing for a business career thereafter. But he had enough curiosity to come and see what was going on at dad’s Hallelujah Acres.
He came for Health Minister training in 1997 and was blown away by the testimonies of healing and by the ministry potential of Hallelujah Acres.
He went back to where he was stationed in Florida and asked his general to release him early. The general told him “No way, you are committed for three more years.” No amount of petitioning appeared to change the general’s mind, but we were all praying the general would let him go.
Just a week before Hallelujah Acres was to move to North Carolina, the general called Paul into his office. He said, “I don’t know why I am doing this, but I am going to let you go.”
Paul asked the general why he had decided to let him go early and the reply was “I really don’t know, it just seemed the right thing to do.” The general may not have known, but we who were praying knew! God does hear and answer prayer!
Paul completed the paperwork and prepared to move to Shelby.
Many people do not know realize the sacrifice Paul made to come to Hallelujah Acres. By leaving the military early, he forfeited his retirement income that took 17 years to build. Until he left the Air Force he had been involved in intelligence and communications with higher security clearances than some of the generals at the pentagon he had briefed.
Paul arrived at Hallelujah Acres on November 1, 1997, the very day we moved into our new facility in Shelby, North Carolina. With Paul taking over the business end of things, I was able to concentrate on the ministry aspect of Hallelujah Acres.
Before moving from Tennessee to Shelby, Hallelujah Acres had 11 employees and only a few were able to make the move with us. Paul immediately had his work cut out for him! He hired new staff, learned the business part of the ministry, and refined its operations.
Today, Hallelujah Acres has a staff of almost 60 people, has a huge web presence, produces its own products, and ships products across North America and to 139 other countries.
Paul and his wife Ann are a tremendous duo! They are totally dedicated to helping to take God’s health message to the world.
I am thrilled that my son will be here when I graduate to heaven to carry on the ministry Rhonda and I began in that little store front in Rogersville, Tennessee 20 years ago.
1998 – Dr. Donaldson Joins Hallelujah Acres
In 1997 I received a letter from Michael Donaldson, a fine Christian young man, who was to soon graduate from Cornell University with a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He expressed interest in joining Hallelujah Acres as our research scientist since his wife was able to correct some serious pregnancy problems after adopting The Hallelujah Diet.
Most of those graduating from Cornell in Michael’s class were going into the drug industry but Michael wasn’t interested in going in that direction. So we asked him to come to Hallelujah Acres for an interview. Michael shared how he would like to scientifically validate the Hallelujah Diet and make sure it had no weaknesses.
We were so impressed that we invited Michael to join us and be a part of the Hallelujah Acres team. Michael has done an outstanding job these past 14 years constantly making sure that the Hallelujah Acres diet was the best it could be. Michael is still with us and has 12 children. All of his children were born at home.
1998 – Hallelujah Acres Canada Opens
Around 1978 while I was a lecturer at the Shangri-La Health Resort in Bonita Springs, Florida (which was closed for 18 years and is now open again), a Canadian couple was in one of my lectures. The reason they were there was because Bev Shouldice, a business man from Canada had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and the doctors had given him no hope of surviving. Bev and his wife were searching for an alternative way of dealing with the cancer — a way that would offer some hope.
Years later, I received a letter in which they told how, after hearing my lecture, Bev had adopted the diet I was advocating in my lectures at the Shangri-La, and Bev’s cancer had gone away as a result of the diet change. When they wrote me that letter they had just learned about Hallelujah Acres and were trained as Health Ministers.
It wasn’t long after that training that Bev contacted me. He wanted a Hallelujah Acres in Canada to bring God’s health message to Canadians. Bev offered their home in rural Shallow Lake to be the Headquarters of Hallelujah Acres. Bev and his wife Dot ran Hallelujah Acres until Bev’s death at age 91; some 30 years after Canadian doctors had pronounced his cancer death sentence.
Upon Bev’s passing, we moved Hallelujah Acres Canada to the city of Toronto where it continues to grow and help multitudes. Judy Fleming (who worked with Bev and Dot) now manages our Canadian operation and we now have hundreds of Hallelujah Acres trained Health Ministers scattered across the Canadian provinces.
Through the years I traveled extensively throughout Canada holding seminars in most of the Canadian provinces. I also conducted Health Minister training at the Hallelujah Acres Canadian headquarters in Shallow Lake for many years.
1998 – Rhonda’s Recipes For Life Recipe Book Is Published
When Rhonda adopted The Hallelujah Diet due to her debilitating arthritic condition in 1990 (of which she completely healed within a year) there were very few recipe books available that supported the primarily, raw plant-based diet Hallelujah Acres advocates.
So, Rhonda set out to write a recipe book. Rhonda, like me, had never written a book before, no less a recipe book. It took her two years to write the book and it turned out to be a tremendous success. The book has 358 pages, over 400 recipes that fit The Hallelujah Diet, and it has a spiral binding for ease of use.
Over a quarter million copies of this book are now in print and in 2011 it was the best selling book of all books Hallelujah Acres carries!
1999 – First Women’s Retreat
For years Rhonda had tried to get me to hold a Women’s Retreat at Hallelujah Acres. I told her that women wouldn’t travel across America by themselves to attend a seminar. Boy was I wrong! In 1999 when I finally said “ok” and that first Women’s Retreat, it was the biggest event we had ever held, and has continued to be the biggest event each year.
2000 – Rev. Malkmus Takes The Health Message To Australia
In the year 2000 I took the Hallelujah Acres health message to Australia’s six largest cities – Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide. The trip was a tremendous success with an average of 500 in each meeting. During that trip I personally trained some 50 Australia health ministers.
2001 – Rev. Malkmus Takes The Health Message To South Africa
In South Africa I delivered seven seminars in six days to an average crowd of 600. In Cape Town I had 600 in attendance at a Saturday morning seminar, and upon completion of that seminar there were 600 more waiting to hear God’s health message. I did back to back seminars that day. I was 68 years of age at the time.
I was in the air over 53 hours that week and not long after returning home, while lecturing, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. I was rushed to the Shelby hospital where the doctors wanted to immediately airlift me to Charlotte for cauterization of the bleed and start me on intravenous drugs.
All medical treatments were refused, doctors ordered me out of the hospital and I was sent home by ambulance to die. Rhonda immediately started me on The Hallelujah Recovery Diet and within a week a neurologist could find no lingering physical or mental limitations. Doctors believe the stroke was caused by the stress experienced on that South Africa trip.
On February 4, 2012, at my First Saturday of the month, “God’s Way to Ultimate Health” seminar at Hallelujah Acres International Headquarters in Shelby, North Carolina, Hallelujah Acres will celebrate its 20th Anniversary. In addition to the seminar, many special things are planned for that day including a healthy birthday cake to be enjoyed by all who attend the seminar, plus each person will get a 20th Anniversary lapel pin. Y’all come!
Next Week, the good Lord willing and if the creeks don’t rise too high, we will pick up where we have left off here in 2001 and share how Hallelujah Acres has continued to grow to where it is today! I trust you will join us as we continue to share the rest of the story.
The Nurse Who’s Seen It All
Jan 26th
Many responded to last week’s Health Tip in which I shared some of the difficulties I faced in taking God’s health message to the world. Below I share a few of those responses along with several wonderful testimonies including one from a nurse who has seen the dark side of cancer both in her work life and personal life:
“I adopted The Hallelujah Diet six months ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer. I adopted the diet because I did not want to follow traditional treatments.
As a result of making this lifestyle change, my tumor is getting smaller, and as a side benefit have lost 45 pounds, a couple of other health issues have been completely resolved and I have been able to stop ALL medications. I feel GREAT! The Hallelujah Diet is the real deal!
I should know because I have been a nurse for 36 years and for the past 10 years worked with cancer patients medically, so I know all about cancer treatments and I know what works and what does not work.
If you have health issues, or just want to get healthy, please check out Rev. Malkmus’ seminars being held in Tampa and Jacksonville Florida during the month of February.”
Lisa M.
“Dear Rev. George, I want to thank you for your very inspiring Health Tips. I have read two of your books – ‘The Hallelujah Diet’ and ‘God’s Way to Ultimate Health’. I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia in 2010, and adopted The Hallelujah Diet. I feel great and healthy but the doctors say I am not yet in complete remission.
I live in Africa and have access here to most of the Hallelujah Acres products for which I am thankful.”
Tessy A., Africa
“Just got home from the doctors. Everything is awesome as always – all my blood work is PERFECT. On The Hallelujah Diet my blood pressure is excellent; weight improving dramatically; bone density that of a 22-year-old. Follow up in six months.
Now heading to the kitchen for a nice glass of carrot juice and starting supper. I’m having vegan split pea soup this evening – yummy!”
Carla B.
“Dear George, Thank you so much for sharing your early years story. I have tried to share The Hallelujah Diet with others and became discouraged because no one wanted to share the journey. Feeling so alone I returned to lots of cooked foods for a few months and lost almost all the improvements I had attained when on The Hallelujah Diet.
Because of your Health Tip I am returning to The Hallelujah Diet because of your perseverance and the fact that God brought your seed to fruition, as He will do mine, in His time.”
Ginny L.
“Thank you so much for sharing your story. I had no idea you went through such difficult times. Yet through it all you kept your focus on what God had led you to do and it was well worth the wait. Being so open with your own struggles gives others hope while going through their challenges. Thank you for being such a blessing.”
Sandie C.
“Rev. Malkmus, I’m so glad you stayed with your health message and didn’t grow weary. God has truly blessed you after such a long, hard journey. I started The Hallelujah Diet over four years ago and have seen some good results.
Three years ago I became a Health Minister and have been working with a cancer support group sharing alternative means of dealing with cancer. We share The Hallelujah Diet and a number are following it. Keep up the good work. I am just a year younger than you. God bless you and all at Hallelujah Acres.”
Grace L.
“Dear Brother Malkmus, I purchased two of Rhonda’s recipe books at the North Carolina Fair two years ago. I told one of my nieces about Hallelujah Acres and she attended one of your seminars.
Following the seminar she adopted The Hallelujah Diet and within a couple of months was well and able to go back to work after being out of work for over a year on disability. The Hallelujah Diet saved her life!
I just read your Health Tip and wanted to share that as a child I met Lester Roloff. He came to my parent’s home in the Caribbean with Brother Bob Mayer who had led my parents to the Lord. I just wanted to share the memory as Brother Roloff had left an impact on me and my family with his vegan way of eating.
Hope that I can someday attend one of your seminars. May God keep blessing you and your ministry!”

Back From Orlando Seminar
Jan 23rd
This past Saturday, Rhonda and I journeyed to the Embassy Suites Orlando North hotel in Altamonte Springs, Florida. It was a gorgeous day – sunny with temperature in the 70’s. We were amazed to see the trees budded and some already sprouting green leaves. Is it really already springtime in Florida?
We arrived at the venue just before 9:00 a.m. and found the seminar room all set up with nearly 200 chairs. Rhonda greeted the folks while I had opportunity to not only greet the people but also autograph books and answer questions.
The seminar began at 10:00 a.m. sharp with the room nearly full. For next fifteen minutes those in attendance who were on The Hallelujah Diet shared the improvements in health they had experienced since making the diet change.
There is no question about it, these testimonies are the highlight of every seminar that I conduct and this seminar was no exception!
They shared how they have recovered from cancers, diabetes, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and multiple sclerosis. They’ve seen blood pressure normalize, experienced drops in triglycerides of over 100 points and cholesterol of over 50 points, and weight losses up to nearly 100 pounds!
With testimonies like these, it’s no wonder those not on The Hallelujah Diet listen closely to the health message that follows.
In February, we have two more seminars scheduled in Florida, one in Tampa-Brandon on February 11, and one in Jacksonville on February 18. Both seminars begin at 10:00 a.m. If you live in these areas please plan to attend and bring someone with you.
We look forward to meeting you, and if you can’t attend and you know someone who lives in the areas where these seminars will be held, please let them know about the opportunity!
How Diet Affects ADHD Kids
Jan 21st
Fast foods, sodas, and ice cream may be American kids’ favorite food items, but they are also probably the worst for those children dealing with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a new study reveals.
According to two researchers from the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, a relatively simple diet low in fats and high in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables is one of the best alternatives to drug therapy for ADHD. Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation has also been shown to help in some controlled studies, they noted.
The researchers reviewed almost 70 publications on diet-based interventions in ADHD and found that diet is one established contributor to ADHD that parents can modify.
One of the most provocative findings in recent years came from the Australian Raine study, which followed children from birth to age 14.
That study found that development of ADHD was significantly associated with the Standard American Diet (rich in saturated fats and sugar) compared to a diet high in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
“A greater attention to the education of parents and children in a healthy dietary pattern, omitting items shown to predispose to ADHD, is perhaps the most promising and practical complementary or alternative treatment of ADHD,” the study said.
Editor’s Note:
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD) is a developmental disorder characterized by the co-existence of attention problems and hyperactivity. It is the most commonly studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorder in children, affecting an ever increasing number of children.
I personally believe the primary cause of ADD and ADHD is the vaccines children receive.
The medical community treats the symptoms of ADD and ADHD with some very toxic drugs such as Ritalin and various derivatives. Every one of these drugs is capable of creating additional problems in the child receiving them – even death. For a sad account of a parent who lost their child as a result of Ritalin, click here.
But, it’s not just children who are being diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. Following is a testimony from an adult who had been diagnosed with “adult ADD” and the results he obtained after adopting The Hallelujah Diet:
“My own health challenges have also disappeared. I had been diagnosed with an Adult Attention Deficit Disorder and had been on Ritalin for five years to help me concentrate – but once I got refined sugar out of my system I was able to concentrate and no longer needed the Ritalin. I have also lost 30 pounds. We have seen other less dramatic changes as well – no more body odor, our hair is healthier, my wife has fingernails for the first time in her life, and our skin is clearer. No more hemorrhoids, no more sore feet, and I could go on and on. Dr. Malkmus, I thank God for you and your ministry!”
